Old Antique 1900 Patent Universal No. 1, Food Chopper, Meat Grinder, Cast Iron
Here's an old or antique Universal No. 1"Food Chopper" or meat grinder kitchen tool we received recently with some older kitchen items. This one has many raised markings on the cast iron pieces and seems to have had patents in the late 1800's with one noted as 1900. So this is probably from the very early 1900's. The cutoff piece is reversible and has a multitooth side and a three tooth side. The wood handle is in nice shape with slight signs of use and age as one might expect. My guess is this had been in use for making hash or other ground meat and vegetable type meals up until recently. It is relatively clean though a little fine cleaning could be done. Other markings indicate"L F& C" of New Britain. CT, USA. To lend a little scale to the photos the grinder stands about 8 inches tall from the bottom ... moreof the frame to the top of the frame. The opening is about 3 inches by 2.5 inches. Nice old or antique kitchen tool, seems suited for continued use. That's about it. Antique/Vintage L.F. C. Universal#1 Meat Grinder w/3 Blades and Old Instruction Sheet. Considering the age. The grinder and attachments are in good condition. The moving parts move freely. There is some pitting, parts are no longer as shiny as they once were and there is a very small amount of rust(very minimal) The instruction sheet is very yellowed due to age. It is about 8 3/4" long(not extended) x 5 3/4" across(not including the handle) NOTE: SHIPPING will be reduced if you live in a state close to Maryland. Wait for invoice from me to pay.

This auction is for an old meat grinder. It has the markings Universal 1 L. C. C. New Brtitain. CONN USA. Made in USA. It is all metal except for the wood handle. It appears to me to be in working shape, I would clean it first before using on food but see no reason why it would not work. It measures approx. 10 inches long, thanks for looking. For more than a century three able men, active in the industrial, political and cultural life in New Britain and in Connecticut, were the principal actors in our little story. But the real theme is the changing pattern of American living in the past 100 years and of the company's contribution to this changing pattern, because Landers has been making products for the American home for nearly twelve decades and its success has been due to ability to change products with the changing times. Then chairman of the board of directors of Landers, Frary& Clark, began a speech on his company's history at a meeting of The Newcomen Society in Noank, Connecticut, August 12, 1955. Mr. White resigned as chairman in 1958. B. C. Neece continued as president of the company. The following year he was named chairman but retired in 1960. Harry T. Silverman, who had been president and was then elected chairman, was the last to hold that post. In 1965 though. This great company, once one of the best known and most prestigious in the housewares and hardware business, closed its doors permanently. The unbelievable had happened. While rumors of its impending doom had long been zig-zagging throughout the marketplace, the final reality came as a shock to the thousands of retailers who had known and dealt with the company for so long. It comes in the original box(worn and tattered) and includes the instruction sheet along with 3 self sharpening cutters, coarse, medium and fine) cuts.
