The grinder has the original paperwork, a pamphlet with product information and includes both care instructions and a parts list, with prices and is in its original red box. The chopper was manufactured in the United States. The chopper is made of cast iron, treated with a tin finish to avoid rusting. It has 3 cutting blades for fine, medium and coarse chopping, all of which are clean and sharp. One has only a little bit of rust which would undoubtedly clean up well. The grinder is clean and in very good condition. The paperwork and box are in good structural condition, though both have significant staining. The handle is scraped up(see pictures) from hours of use. The bell is in great shape. No dings or broken pieces. Owned by a former butcher. Very well cared for! The grinder weighs approximately 7 lbs 14 oz. Don't miss out on this fabulous find! Great for a that lodge in the woods and venison! Included are 4 self sharpening cutters: Fine. Food and Meat Chopper Grinder Universal No.1 Regular with Hopper 3" x 4"
This meat chopper was made in the USA. It is a product of the Union Manufacturing Co. New Britain. Connecticut. The prices for replacement parts range from $0.35 to $0.65. The highest price is for Cutter Plates for the Large chopper at $3.50. I would say the prices indicate that this chopper is probably from the 1940's maybe earlier. The package insert states: Made of precision milled iron casting. Sanitary Rust-Resistant finishes. Long handle leverage for easier operation. Sharply ground cutters for clean cutting and pulverizing. Easily cleaned and assembled. Parts always available. I haven't checked the truth of the last statement)
