This is a very rare antique CHEESE grater made by Alexanderwerk of Germany. I listed it under the"meat grinder" ebay category for lack of a better listing catergory. And I noted"meat grinder" in the listing"title" for this item merely for searching purposes. The grater is in good original. Unrestored condition as you can see from the photographs. I do NOT profess that it is in"excellent" or"pristine" condition, but it has weathered its 70- 100 years of age quite well. It is a very attractive, unusual piece and still displays the original cupid decal(painting? as well as a decal reflecting what I interpret to be the manufacturer and"product line" of the grater; Alexanderwerk, Reibemaschine" The cheese grater stands approximately 16 inches tall and weighs about 6.7 pounds. Here we have a large size#10 German Alexanderwerk meat grinder. All original condition. Having been stored away for over 55 years. Nice aged wood handle. Still turns but is a little stiff due to being unused for so many years. The small disc that serves to clamp the grinder to a tabletop is missing. But the rod is there and the flat top of the rod could still serve the same purpose. The grinder weighs over 9 pounds before any packing. So shipping costs are higher. Selling this as a display piece. But it most likely would work as intended if cleaned and oiled. Would make a great restaurant or home kitchen display. Has just the right vintage look. 1900 Antique German Alexanderwerk Grinder Red Cast Iron VERY NICE COND Rare 1045
Up for bid is an antique Alexanderwerks Grater(no. 1045) in oxblood red. This piece is from Germany and It is cast iron and and in amazing condition for it's age! From what I've read. This is probably around the early 1900's. Please make sure to see all photos! The logo features a crisp and bright colors, the wooden box is still there and in nice shape, the handle, etc. All- very nice! I'm not an expert by any means, but I believe this grater is used for nuts, cheese, etc. I would assume it could be used for meat but I'm not sure that is the original purpose. This measures approximately 15 1/2 inches long. It is cast iron(so heavy! and the inside(where you take out the wooden block) is enamel? All packages are well packed and insured. HISTORY from the company website The company was founded in 1885 by Alexander von der Nahmer in Remscheid and soon become known as Alexanderwerk. Up to this time the 52 year old Alexander von der Nahmer had been manager of a rolling mill in Troisdorf. As well as serving for ten years as a partner in the Bergisch Steel Industry(BSI) in Remscheid With the proceeds of the sale of shares in this company he bought the present company site and erected a foundry with associated mechanical operations. There he manufactured and marketed all types of cast engineering items. On a business trip to America Alexander ... morevon der Nahmer came across a meat processing machine that he later manufactured and marketed in Germany. At that time little was known about the principle of meat processing machines in Germany and Europe. Traditionally meat had always been cut up with a chopping knife. The machine was an instant success and became one of company's most famous products. Heralding the entry of Alexanderwerk into the food processing industry. After initial difficulties and the associated threat of bankruptcy, there followed a period of rapid expansion that required more capital than the family could raise, with the result that the company become a joint stock company quoted on the stock exchange. At the turn of the century the upsurge of popularity in canteen catering caused the company to focus increasingly on canteen kitchen machines. In the 1930' s the company's expertise in the fields of fine shredding. Stirring, grating, kneading and mixing was applied to machine construction for the chemical-pharmaceutical industry. Here is a wonderful antique German ALEXANDERWERK meat grinder. 5 Remscheid. From before 1900's. The company opened its doors in 1885! This is a really rare piece. You wont find another one embossed with the words"Remscheid" This is the only one I have seen with the sausage making attachment. It also has the ground meat making attachment.
