And just looks cool as all get out. As far as I can tell, there isn’t much that can go wrong with them. The latest of the patent dates is the American one(1900) The other patent dates are for Canada. The United Kingdom and Belgium. There are four cutters. Two of them appear to be for meat. Another is marked“Bread Crumber” And the last one says Condition– It has a patina that shows a lot of use. But there are no bad scratches on it. Some of the pages of the pamphlet are loose and it’s somewhat brittle with age. But it is otherwise readable. Since this weighs well over 4 pounds before any box or packaging. I will send it in a medium flat rate box, the cost of which will be $12.65- Free local pickup is an option if you can make your way to Saint Paul. It has 3 cutting blades for fine, medium and coarse chopping, all of which are clean and sharp. One has only a little bit of rust which would undoubtedly clean up well. Old Antique 1900 Patent Universal No. 1, Food Chopper, Meat Grinder, Cast Iron
Here's an old or antique Universal No. 1"Food Chopper" or meat grinder kitchen tool we received recently with some older kitchen items. This one has many raised markings on the cast iron pieces and seems to have had patents in the late 1800's with one noted as 1900. So this is probably from the very early 1900's. The cutoff piece is reversible and has a multitooth side and a three tooth side. The wood handle is in nice shape with slight signs of use and age as one might expect. My guess is this had been in use for making hash or other ground meat and vegetable type meals up until recently. It is relatively clean though a little fine cleaning could be done. Other markings indicate"L F& C" of New Britain. CT, USA. To lend a little scale to the photos the grinder stands about 8 inches tall from the bottom ... moreof the frame to the top of the frame. The opening is about 3 inches by 2.5 inches. Nice old or antique kitchen tool, seems suited for continued use. That's about it. This offering features a very nice original Universal#1 Chopper. Manufactured by L.T. Snow Company of New Haven, Connecticut(see photos for documentation) L.T. Snow was in business only from 1883 to 1906, so this chopper is at least 108 years old. This cast iron chopper has the standard counter clamp that works very well(see 4th and 5th photos) The hand crank and grinder/chopper blade move well and can be easily disassembled for cleaning(see 2nd photo) The wooden handle is in great condition(no cracks or checks) and has a great patina. There is a very nice small brass collar on the wooden handle where it connects to the hand crank(see 6th photo) This chopper measures 9-1/2" high when the counter clamp is fully extended. Vintage Antique UNIVERSAL No.1 Food Chopper Grinder New Britian CT Grinder!
Up for grabs is an antique hand Meat Grinder marked No.1 UNIVERSAL Food Chopper.L.F. C.New Britain. Conn. U.S.A. The item is in decent shape and still has some of the original finish. The main body measures 8" long with the handle measuring 8 1/2" long. You will receive everything pictured which will weigh about 4 1/4 lbs. I have not removed the handle from the main feeding screw because it was on tight and did not want to take a chance and break anything. Email with any questions because what you see is what you get.
