Old Antique 1900 Patent Universal No. 1, Food Chopper, Meat Grinder, Cast Iron
Here's an old or antique Universal No. 1"Food Chopper" or meat grinder kitchen tool we received recently with some older kitchen items. This one has many raised markings on the cast iron pieces and seems to have had patents in the late 1800's with one noted as 1900. So this is probably from the very early 1900's. The cutoff piece is reversible and has a multitooth side and a three tooth side. The wood handle is in nice shape with slight signs of use and age as one might expect. My guess is this had been in use for making hash or other ground meat and vegetable type meals up until recently. It is relatively clean though a little fine cleaning could be done. Other markings indicate"L F& C" of New Britain. CT, USA. To lend a little scale to the photos the grinder stands about 8 inches tall from the bottom ... moreof the frame to the top of the frame. The opening is about 3 inches by 2.5 inches. Nice old or antique kitchen tool, seems suited for continued use. That's about it. This is an old cast iron meat grinder or food chopper as it says. It is in pretty good condition. It has patents and places all over it so I photographed them so you can see. This had just a little surface rust on the inside.So I took it apart and cleaned it and treated it with mineral oil(a safe oil that you use on cutting boards) It could use some more cleaning. This weighs about 4 pounds! The crank turns easily one way, a little more difficult the other, but I am trying it not bolted down. The blade part turns easily. The bolt on the clamp part is a little bent, but does turn in and out. THIS IS REALLY HEAVY! IT BARELY FITS INTO A FLAT RATE ENVELOPE. BUT THAT IS THE ONLY AFFORDABLE WAY TO SHIP THIS. LS Starrett meat& vegetable chopper. Manufacturerd by Athol Machine Company(MA) and designed by Leroy Starrett who patented the device on May 23, 1865. The piece is constructed of cast iron, painted tin, and painted wood. The piece works perfectly, and appears to be completely original. It chops downward, while the canister rotates. The metal drum rotated on a ratchet while the crank raised and lowered the guillotine-action blade, which cut meat evenly as the drum turned. To find a piece in such superb condition is a rarity. ANTIQUE PORCELAIN-LINED MODOS GREEN CAST IRON FOOD GRINDER-ORIGINAL PAINT
ITEM DESCRIPTION& CONDITION: USA BIDDERS ONLY PLEASE! This is a fantastic antique food grinder with minimal loss to the orignal finishes. I have never seen another with this great green paint and the shoot is lined with a porcelain finish! The wood handle was once painted green also. And there is only a slight amount of the green paint left. The worst part of this, condition-wise, is where the food would actually come out of the grinder. Quite rusty, but a good cleaning/oiling would make this usable once again. This looks worse in pictures than in person, as the camera flash over-highlighted the surface rust. Stamped in the iron on one side is H.81.5 and on the other side is a 5 stamped in the iron with the word"MODOS" under it. VINTAGE ANTIQUE FOOD PROCESSOR CLIMAX 50 MEAT GRINDER USA CAST IRON WOOD HANDLE
COLLECTIBLE ANTIQ UE MEAT GRINDER BRAND NAME: Climax 50*PRICE JUST REDUCED" This is a vintage Cast Iron Meat Grinder from a 100 plus year old kitchen. Not sure of the actual date that this item was manufactured. It has that valued beautiful patina which comes with the process of aging and some rust spotting. There are no extra parts with this old"workhorse" as I have shown in the detailed photographs included in this offering. You will receive only what is pictured and as described in"as is" condition. The embossed wording"Climax 50" is on the front of the food intake bulb. And then on one side of the handle arm is the inscription: L.F. C. New Britain. Conn. U.S.A.
