Antique 10" Hand Crank Meat and Food Grinder - Universal #2
The No. 2 model is the smallest of three available versions of this meat and food grinder from the Universal Company. This one is from an estate sale and dates back over 60 years. It's in excellent condition. Hand crank wood handle is in great shape. Sold as seen in photos without attachments. 10" H x 7" W Long before the days when food processors and blenders were standard electric appliances in the kitchen. Manual meat grinders made of heavy-duty steel were used for the laborious tasks of chopping and grinding. The Universal brand of meat grinders, manufactured in New Britain, Connecticut, from the mid-19th century through the 1980s, are now marketed by ownership that puts an emphasis on their use as gourmet food choppers.

I'm not sure what year it was made. But I do remember turning the crank for my mother when I was young, 50 years ago. And I thought it looked old then. It has a few different PAT. dates. 1897, 1899& 1900. It does have some normal wear and tear. The tinned coating that keeps it from rusting is in great shape on the inside but has been worn off in spots on the outside. The handle on the crank is made of oak. I believe, and still in great shape. Everything turns freely and comes apart with ease. It would be great for a collection or to use for building muscles. If you win this item and want to use it. Vintage Griswold Erie Pa No 2 Hand Crank Meat Food Grinder Nice
This Vintage No. 2 Griswold Hand Crank Food Meat Grinder is in real nice shape and working order for its age. Still pretty clean looking to some of the ones I've come across. It does feature a removable blade disc. However the unit only has one as pictured. There is no damage to the unit and the wooden handle is in perfect shape and condition, with no cracks, chips or splintering. Perfect for the up and coming deer hunting season. Great to have in an Emergency Preparedness Kit. To have on hand if any natural disasters should occur, for it requires no electricity to operate.

Back in the day the development of this type of houseware appliance was consider to be a marvel of its time. The original meat grinders were developed by Landers. Frary and Clark Company during 1897 and became a must have item in numerous homes. This model is a#2 and in outstanding condition. Based on its weight of almost 4 1/2 pounds it is believed to be constructed of cast iron. It measures approximately 11” in length(includes handle) and all moving parts are functional. Stamped into its metal body and handle are the company name and location, which was Bridgeport, Connecticut. The crank has a wooden handle that is also in outstanding condition. Unfortunately the L. F. C. Company discontinued business in 1965.
