Also stamped on the body is L. F. C. New Britain; Conn. U.S.A. The handle turns easily and so does the clamp screw that attaches to a table. The wheel on the front where the meat comes out also turns freely and is stamped Screw Up Tight, Tighten with an clockwise arrow and Loosen with a counter-clockwise arrow. Has a large, black wooden handle to turn and overall there's very little rust. I think it's in excellent condition for its age and would make a wonderful display item, although I'm sure it would still grind meat from ... morethe way it looks. This is a heavy, well-built item- they don't build'em to last like this any more where you only need to buy one in your lifetime! The grinder has the original paperwork, a pamphlet with product information and includes both care instructions and a parts list, with prices and is in its original red box. The chopper was manufactured in the United States. The chopper is made of cast iron, treated with a tin finish to avoid rusting. It has 3 cutting blades for fine, medium and coarse chopping, all of which are clean and sharp. One has only a little bit of rust which would undoubtedly clean up well. The grinder is clean and in very good condition. The paperwork and box are in good structural condition, though both have significant staining. Measures about 4" across at the mouth x a bout 10" tall overall. Th is is in pretty good condit ion with a great patina and a wonderful piece of Americana that still functions. ANTIQUE CAST STEEL UNIVERSAL MEAT GRINDER Recently removed from a Fredricksburg. Virginia estate, this old meat grinder measures approximately 9-1/2" long with the handle down x 9" wide. It has 3 different size grinding blades. A wood grip on the handle, and all working parts. Made by the L F& C company in New Britain. Connecticut, it shows patent dates of October 12,1897 and May 15, 1900 on the inside of the handle. It is in good condition with the grinder mechanism turning evenly& smoothly. The No. 2 model is the smallest of three available versions of this meat and food grinder from the Universal Company. This one is from an estate sale and dates back over 60 years. It's in excellent condition. Hand crank wood handle is in great shape. Sold as seen in photos without attachments. 10" H x 7" W Long before the days when food processors and blenders were standard electric appliances in the kitchen. Manual meat grinders made of heavy-duty steel were used for the laborious tasks of chopping and grinding.
