It does have some light surface scratches and wear from general use, but no major damage or gouges. The top has a lot of water stains on it, and the finish is a bit faded in this area as well. It is footed and sits on slight cabriole curved feet. It has beautiful grain and was manufactured by a trusted furniture manufacturer. It was made by the Caswell-Runyan Company in Huntington Indiana. The chest is made of solid rosewood. And not veneer, and is finished on all 4 sides plus top; with a cedar lined inside. The style is classic with subtle Asian touches evident in the brass latch hardware. And the feet of the chest. There are no carvings. The hardware is solid brass. It has a classic look. Never goes out of style, mixes well with modern or traditional decor. Could be used at the foot of a bed, for a coffee table, a TV stand, and many other uses. Condition: a few minor nicks and scuffs. But overall very good to excellent. No water stains. There is some minor shrinkage to the floating panels(top and sides) that seems to self adjust with more humidity as the weather changes. I am not the original owner but was told the chest was purchased at Marshall Fields in the 1950s. I do not have a receipt or any written confirmation of this. Vintage Lane Waterfall Chest This is a fantastic vintage Lane waterfall cedar chest. This beautiful piece was made by Lane in April of 1952. The front of the chest features inlaid veneer panels of burled wood. The interior of the chest is in excellent condition. The interior tray is lined with felt. Which has some general scratches and wear. The lid to the chest operates smoothly. The chest is marked on the bottom with the style number 2815-3 and the serial number 251040. Inside the top lid is the Lane marking. Also listed are the place of manufacture(Altivista. VA) and a list of relevant patent numbers, the most recent being 2355542. This is in fantastic condition overall with some general signs of age and use. There are various scratches and spots of wear on the top surface. There are a couple of small chips in the veneer. One on the top ... moreleft and one on the front of the bottom lip. There is some damage to the wood just above both of the front feet. There is some surface cracking on the curved portion of the lid, which is only visible upon close inspection. These flaws do little to remove from the overall appearance of the chest. Note: The original lock has been removed from this chest and replaced with a new lock to meet the US Safety Commissions recall of Lane Cedar Chests made before 1987. It is in good sturdy condition and the lock is functional. The original lock has been removed and replaced by Lane, so that entrapment is not possible, and it will only lock by pushing and turning the key from the outside. The lid has some surface damage and could use some refinishing if desired. It also needs some light stain touch up on the sides and legs, to color in some small scratches and nicks. Mid Century Lane Cedar Hope Chest with Record Storage
Lane cedar-lined hope chest with lock and key. All original in excellent condition. Cedar is still aromatic. Style number 8809-50 and serial number 957270. Overall dimensions are 27 inches high. 47 inches long and 17 1/2 inches deep. Unit has two compartments. Main compartment is the cedar lined chest with inside dimensions of 28 1/2 inches wide, 15 1/2 inches deep and 16 inches high. Second compartment has 25 inch outside highet from the floor and has 3 vertical and removable dividers. This second compartment was probably intended for phonograph record storage. Inside dimenstions of second compartment are 14 1/2 inches wide, 16 inches deep and 15 1/2 inches high. Exterior finish is in excellent condition with minor blemishes on main lid top. Two minor paint scrape marks in lower left hand corner will rub out with 0000 steel wool and furniture ... morepolish/oil. Am leaving as-is so new owner can select polish/oil as desired. Important safety notice: lock catch will be removed and given to buyer at time of pick up. A replacment saftey lock adapter for the cedar storage area has been ordered from the Lane Comapany and will be given to the buyer.

Antique 1900's red cedar chest with wooden casters ..beautiful!
This is a beautiful red solid cedar chest with scrolled front legs and wooden casters. It is decorated with copper plates and is in very good condition for being almost 100 yrs old.I do not know the maker but someone has told me it was a"Rice maker of the world Assoc. chest made in USA.I have seen another one just like this that had a date of 12/25/ 1916. It does have a number stamped on the bottom right of# 4551. I do not have a key for it but you might be able to get one made. The wood is very nice and still smells like cedar inside and the plating is in really good shape with no dents.this would make a good sofa table because it is nice on all sides. It has wooden handles on the sides and measures 40 in wide the inside is 17 in deep and it is about 19 in tall with the scrolled feet and weighs about 35-40 lbs.If I can answer any more ... morequestions please let me know and thanks for looking! Beautiful ANTIQUE LANE CEDAR CHEST 1951 - Waterfall Art Deco - Blanket / Hope
This is a beautiful 1951 Lane Cedar Chest. It is done in the Waterfall style. With the different kinds of wood making patterns. This chest is marked with the Lane logo on the inside of the lid along with the original paperwork, dated Oct. 1952. The bottom is marked with the style number(2592-3M) and the serial number(157150) The manufacture date is the serial number backwards, so this chest was made 5/17/51. The inside of the box on the bottom is the pressure treated mark that also says, the only tested aroma tight cedar chest in the world" This cedar chest is in wonderful condition for its age. It has been well taken care of for many years. There are only a few light scuffs and scratches on the surface and a couple little broken pieces of veneer along the top edges. pictured) The feet are even in great condition. This chest does have ... moreits original lock still installed but no key. The latch mechanism has been recalled many years ago and the original locks need to be replaced. The latches automatically latch shut when closed and children can become entrapped. I was told that Lane will replace your lock for free but I do not know if that is still true. Vintage 1953 Lane Cedar Hope Chest #2687
This is a 1953 Lane Cedar Hope Chest with two working drawers. It looks like it has nine drawers. But only the two bottom drawers open. The pictures show the original lock and key, but the new issued lock from the Lane Safety Recall will be installed. The chest measures 4 feet long by 18 1/4 inches deep by 29 inches high. It does have some scratches but nothing in my opinion that is horrible. I have tried to show them in the photos. I have searched the internet to try and find more information about this rare chest, but I haven't found another like it. I contacted Lane to see if they could tell me about the chest, but they said the warehouse where it was made had burned and all files were lost. This is a nice Lane Cedar Hope Chest from the 1960's. It is in what I would consider to be very nice condition considering it's age. There are some minor scuffs and scratches. But nothing serious. The lock on this chest has been updated with the newer replacement lock from Lane that was part of a recall. Vintage 1956 Lane Cedar Chest in a dark cherry high gloss finish. The storage compartment is cedar lined and the unit has two side drawers which are felt lined. Both the storage box and drawers have locks and the original keys. Due to a consumer product safety recall the lock has been removed the chest. The doll was in the chest but she wanted them sold separately. We feel sure the chest was made in the late 1920's.It is very solid but there are 2 nails missing on the top and a small screw missing on the inside latch. The last picture shows a tear on the copper strap. This is a beautiful piece of work. It measures 17 1/4" wide X 8 7/8" front to back and 81/2" high. It appears to only be about 20 years old. And I have never seen one like this before. It appears like it was only built at the end of last century, and is solid red mahogany with a rope or gadroon molded top. Open the top to expose a cedar lined interior. The lock has been disabled for safety purposes, per various used furniture laws. This is not made by the Lane Furniture Company out of Alta Vista Virginia, but it looks like their work, as it is high quality. The front has simulated five raised panel drawers, a fleur-de-lis carved simulated center drawer in the base and a beautiful applied incise carved skirt. The legs are cabriole carved ball ... moreand claw. The chest is in the lovely reddish brown stain finish. The top has been refinished as it came in with an array of nicks and dings, and now looks beautiful. The chest is 48 inches wide, 22.5 inches deep and 34 inches high. For sale is a Vintage 1975 Lane Hope/Blanket Cedar Chest with New Lock! I believe it shows the Declaration of Independence but I am not exactly sure and the company could not tell me since they have lost their vintage records in a flood. It is style# 2389-22 and the serial# is 2575190. The chest shows normal wear like scratches and scuffs. It measures 40x17x17" and has two leather straps on each side(forgot the pic of that) and one has ripped and needs to be fixed. This seems to be an unique chest since I have not been able to find one like it. There was a recall on the lock and it has been replaced by a lock sent from Lane Co.
