The graduated drawers are pine lined and this is a typical feature of Welsh housekeeper cupboards. The whole frame is built using a peg construction method. Unusually this is the top half of the Linen Press that has survived intact. Stunning Georgian Linen Press Cabinet. Flamed mahogany with oak draw liners plus working lock with key. In good Antique condition, a couple of age splits to the side of the cabinet/ front veneer. A small area to the right hand edge of the veneer(Shown) which shows split. Right hand door scuffs slightly to close on the base, ~ given its age not a lot has failed. Lovely planked back to the cabinet. This particular piece was purchased about 25 years ago from a highly regarded antique dealer in New York(card showing) Size: 51.5" wide at the top moldings. 49.5" wide at the base, 23.25" deep and 73" high. Primary wood is richly figured Honduran mahogany with the use of a pine secondary wood. The upper case doors are all nicely hand chamfered paneled mahogany. The drawers are hand dovetailed. Has three(3) interior sliding drawers(showing only two) This fine piece is unusual for two reasons: one the straight leg base on an antique linen press is rare to find and secondly the age of this piece is not common(most found are from the early 1800's) among early Linen Presses. A very lovely, yet ... moresimplistic and elegant form. The piece has a few flaws. There are single cracks on two of the interior drawer fronts that can be easily repaired. Hardware appears to be original with exception of the lock which may be a later replacement. Antique 18th c English inlaid linen press armoire drawers wardrobe Georgian
An 18th century English linen press in figured walnut. It measures approximately 85" tall. The widest point is at the top molding- about 52" wide. The deepest part is also at the top molding- about 20-1/8" deep. At the mid-point down. It is about 50" wide and 18.75" deep. We do not know the maker. There is overall normal surface wear commensurate with age and use, including some dings and scratches as they are found commonly on antique furniture. The top molding in particular has splitting and drying due to age. We believe the hardware is original, and the key is included. Most of the original glue bucks are intact as well. The structural integrity is good and there are no major problems. The piece does break down into two pieces for easier transport.
