Late 18th Century c. 1780-1800 Item# 130001GHP27 This is a very fine solid mahogany English Chippendale Hanging Antique Corner Cabinet or Cupboard with a Broken-Arch Pediment. Crafted during the last quarter of the 18th Century c. 1780-1800. Of outstanding construction. It features thick planed and carved crown molding along the Broken-Arch, raising the visual plane of the cabinet quite intensely to culminate in a turned finial over a plinth scroll cut of the solid. The sides of the case bevel to soften the edge before joining the wall, these flanking two blind doors. The doors are constructed using a through-tenon mortised frame locking in the inset chamfered panels. Each with shapely notched crests and edged by cockbead molding, both functioning smoothly on ... moreoriginal brass hinges. Inside of the doors, the original hardware remains untouched, the hand forged iron latch on the left door locking the panel in place, the original steel lock on the right door still in place. The interior is four shelves, all but the second-to-top shelf backed by a silk upholstery. The back of the case is entirely dovetail construction. The quarter-sawn oak secondary woods locking into the top and bottom boards without the use of nails or screws. Over the years, this has placed some strain on the back-most corners, as the oak is not thick enough to create an indestructible joint, resulting in some light cracking and looseness where the two boards come together. The cabinet is meant to be mounted using multiple screws through the backboards, coupled with the original hanging tabs at the top of the cabinet on both sides. Walnut, circa 1760-85. A finely crafted work, it features a beautiful hand carved molding around the crown, flanking a dovetailed top with nearly black levels of oxidization. Chamfered columns flank blind-cupboard doors with tombstone panels, the frame with glued through-tenon joints, locking with an original hand made iron lock and swinging open over original hinges with mostly original screws. The inside of the panels boast the rough unfinished chisel work of the artisan, shaping the panel to smoothly rabbet into the frame. All original shelves line the cupboard, the top shelf being half the depth of the other two, all shelves being permanent ... moreand sliding into the case from the back along hidden grooves. The cupboard case has wooden pins locking the tenoned joints together, the sides constructed of two pieces of solid walnut, joined at the back with pine secondary boards with traces of an early red stain, lined around the edges with original iron rose head nails. The lower case features three drawers, each with replaced hardware, though the integrity of the holes were preserved by using an old hole for the knob hardware and filling the other with a matched walnut wooden pin. An applied lip runs along the top of each drawer. The drawers feature hand dovetail construction with yellow pine secondary woods with a hand chamfered bottom. Pennsylvania circa 1780-1800. A finely crafted work, it features a beautiful hand carved molding around the crown, surrounding a dovetailed top with nearly black levels of oxidization. Bevelled"lamb's tongue" columns flank blind-cupboard doors with tombstone panels, the traditional door frame joined with glued through-tenon joints, locking with an original hand made iron lock and swinging open over original hinges with mostly original screws. The inside of the panels boast the rough unfinished chisel work of the artisan, shaping the panel to smoothly rabbet into the frame. All original shelves line the cupboard[patched along the ... morefronts] the top shelf being half the depth of the other two, all shelves being permanent and sliding into the case from the back along hidden grooves. The cupboard case has wooden pins locking the tenoned joints together. The sides constructed of two pieces of solid walnut, joined at the back with pine and poplar secondary boards with traces of an early red stain, lined around the edges with original iron wrought nails. The lower case features three drawers, each with replaced hardware, though the integrity of the holes were preserved by using an old hole for the knob hardware and filling the other with a matched walnut wooden pin. An applied lip runs along the top of the lower two drawers, the top drawer lip being carved of the solid. Fine American Chippendale Desk or Chest Top Cabinet Mid Atlantic States. Late 18th Century Item# 130006GAJ22 This is a quite fine and highly austere work of art from the Mid-Atlantic States. Probably either Virginia or Pennsylvania c. 1770-90. It is an American Chippendale Period Four Pane Cupboard of Petite Proportions, crafted to be a flexible piece that could be placed on top of a slant front desk, a table or a chest of drawers. The joinery is precise and perfect: the top and bottom boards dovetails onto the solid Walnut plank sides of the case, the three vertical backboards nailed along the edges into the top and bottom boards, the front of the case entirely mortise tenon joinery and the door pegged through-tenon joints. The projecting molding surrounding the crown of the cabinet is well developed. The ogee form mirrored in the base molding ... moreand likewise in the carefully formed astragal molding around each of the glass panes in the door. These are the original panes, preserved in very fine condition with only a single crack in one pane, still swinging easily in the door on replaced hinges to reveal a two level interior. The finish is very early. Possibly original under later shellac; this shellac is heavily alligatored with a light crackling throughout, giving it a character and rustic quality that is very appealing. On the bottom board of the case, a scrolled"A" is scratched into the surface. This is a fine piece that has been cared for and preserved for it's lifetime- it is an outstanding selection for the discerning collector of fine American antiques. Measurements: 31 7/8" wide x 17 3/4" deep x 28 3/8" high Condition Report: Hinges are replaced. But are of the period with mostly period hand filed screws. ANTIQUE EARLY KING GEORGE II SHIP'S BOAT SINK CUPBOARD/ CABINET/ VANITY* Up for sale is this amazing antique. This very rare item is what appears to be a ship's sink. It has a porcelain sink and an old pipe down through the cabinet. This probably went into another basin that was emptied once it was full. What is so unique about this item is that it has the seal of the crown with the letters"G.R. below it. From our research on the internet. This is from King George II(Rex) or King Georgius II Rex as he was referred to and thus his initials were"G.R. He reigned from 1727- 1760 and it would make sense that this was from during his reign. It looks like a built in cabinet of some type and due to its size. It seems to be part of the quarters on a ship. It's mahogany and for being as old as it is, it's in great shape! It's ... moregot and old knob and handle for the door below. The stem of the handle is too long so the handle flops about some. We're not sure if this is the original handle or not. The cabinet is all nicely dovetail mortised. Including the bottom(not shown) The lid lifts up to reveal the porcelain sink inside. The sink has a little ding on one side but nothing out of the ordinary for the age. It even has the little brass chain and stopper for the sink basin. The back has flathead old screws in it and a couple of newer replacement screws. The backsplash also has a crack in it which is below the sink and visible only from the back. It has worn spots. Edge wear, scratches and nicks as you'd expect from and item of this age but in comparison to its age it is in GREAT condition. Unusually this is the top half of the Linen Press that has survived intact. Stunning Georgian Linen Press Cabinet. Flamed mahogany with oak draw liners plus working lock with key. In good Antique condition, a couple of age splits to the side of the cabinet/ front veneer. A small area to the right hand edge of the veneer(Shown) which shows split. Right hand door scuffs slightly to close on the base, ~ given its age not a lot has failed. Lovely planked back to the cabinet. Up for auction is this beautiful handmade Spice Cabinet newly constructed by myself of highly figured tiger maple. Based on traditional period examples in design and construction. It features mortise and tenon construction, a raised panel door, 2 adjustable shelves, solid tiger maple ship-lapped back panels, and top quality solid brass hardware. All of the wood was carefully selected, resawn and matched for consistent grain and figure throughout. Overall dimensions are 24" tall, 17 1/2" wide and 7" deep. The inside is 5 1/4" deep. It is finished in an antique maple stain and satin lacquer finish that really makes the figure in the wood pop out and gives it a nice warm look and feel. Georgian 1790 Antique English Hanging Cupboard or Corner Cabinet. An authentic Georgian period hanging corner cabinet dates from about 1790. This beautiful cabinet was hand crafted in England of solid mahogany with delicate inlaid satinwood stringing or banding. The door panel is a single wide plank of figured mahogany. Hand chamfered or raised on the back. There is a shrinkage separation from age, see photos. Hand planing marks can be felt everywhere on this antique furniture. Hand wrought rose cut nail heads are visible on the back. A key works the wrought iron lock. Dimensions are 30 1/2" across the crown. 44 1/2" tall and the sides are 21" from the corner of the wall to the front tip of the crown.
