The broken-arch pediment is striking and unusual. The thin arms lifting from the molded top in a cresting wave, curling into fine inlaid pinwheel rosettes; these opposing waves of the pediment flank a fine inlaid pointed urn finial raised on a plinth base of conforming inlay. The arched door is crafted with through-tenon joinery, the fragile corners supported with butterfly dovetails on the inside(possibly later) it features twelve glazed panels framed in scratched-bead walnut astragals, opening on original hinges to reveal a shelved interior. Each shelf is channeled to display plates and platters, the front edge of each shelf molded, one shelf crafted to hold utensils in the front edge. The case has outstanding proportions. These eased by the thick molding around the waist and the inlaid band around the shoulders- this easily divides the visual planes of the piece into graduated levels that are easier for the eye to digest. The bottom of the case has a pair of solid walnut doors framed in a matching inlaid band, each embellished with inlaid shield escutcheons to match the arched door, these opening to reveal a shelved interior. The entire case rests over original bracket feet. The construction of the case is very fine. The pair of stiles on either side of the case joined in some kind of hidden dovetail or butt-joint, running from just an inch above the ground through the molding of the crest. Late 18th Century c. 1780-1800 Item# 130001GHP27 This is a very fine solid mahogany English Chippendale Hanging Antique Corner Cabinet or Cupboard with a Broken-Arch Pediment. Crafted during the last quarter of the 18th Century c. 1780-1800. Of outstanding construction. It features thick planed and carved crown molding along the Broken-Arch, raising the visual plane of the cabinet quite intensely to culminate in a turned finial over a plinth scroll cut of the solid. The sides of the case bevel to soften the edge before joining the wall, these flanking two blind doors. The doors are constructed using a through-tenon mortised frame locking in the inset chamfered panels. Each with shapely notched crests and edged by cockbead molding, both functioning smoothly on ... moreoriginal brass hinges. Inside of the doors, the original hardware remains untouched, the hand forged iron latch on the left door locking the panel in place, the original steel lock on the right door still in place. The interior is four shelves, all but the second-to-top shelf backed by a silk upholstery. The back of the case is entirely dovetail construction. The quarter-sawn oak secondary woods locking into the top and bottom boards without the use of nails or screws. Over the years, this has placed some strain on the back-most corners, as the oak is not thick enough to create an indestructible joint, resulting in some light cracking and looseness where the two boards come together. The cabinet is meant to be mounted using multiple screws through the backboards, coupled with the original hanging tabs at the top of the cabinet on both sides. Measuring just 67 7/8" high, it is an incredibly attractive size and is simply magnetic visually. Crafted of solid walnut primary woods, this is almost indistinct behind a dry and well oxidized early surface- this beautiful depth and darkness is indicative of the love and care shown to this piece for the last two hundred years, where it was left untouched and unaltered in basically the same state as when it first left the craftsman's shop. With a complex projecting crown molding highlighted by the tiny teeth of the dentil molding. ... moreA refined taste is evident in a form that is distinctly averse to the overly-ornate. The doors are rectangular, solid walnut panels set in a through-tenon mortised door frame, the panels chamfered along the interior edges to rest comfortably in the frame without any joinery. Tiger Maple Hanging Corner Cupboard
This auction is for a solid Tiger Maple Hanging corner cupboard. All Handmade. It features a Cornice, Dentil Molding and two All Hand-Dovetailed Drawers with Hand-Chamfered Drawer Bottoms. All three knobs are tiger maple and Hand-Turned. The case is all mortis and tenon construction held together with walnut square wooden pegs. The door is mortis and tenon construction as well and has a raised panel in the center. The door and both interior shelves are beaded. The backboards are non-wormy chestnut(Pre-blight, that is, early 1800s) and are ship lapped with square nails. All hardware(square nails and hinges) is antique. I am a 4th generation Master Cabinetmaker. Having previously trained under my uncle for several years. My specialty is in creating reproductions of antique furniture. I have always had a strong appreciation for the old styles ... moreand solid workmanship, so each of my pieces is as authentic as is possible. In fact, my pieces have been mistaken as original by reputable dealers, and unfortunately have even been re-sold as originals. Antique Hanging Corner Cupboard - Hand Chamfered and Pegged
Lovely 19th Century Hanging Corner Cupboard Perfect for displaying collectives or storage. This cupboard is all hand chamfered and pegged! I believe the wood is walnut but can not say absolutely. It does show evidence of old wood worm activity but it is inactive! We recently repainted removing it from where it hung and decided it was time for it to go to a new home. The dimensions are 47" tall 32" across from where each side touches the wall and 17" deep. The one door does have a slight warp at the bottom as seen in the 7th picture. PRIMITIVE 1700'S TO EARLY 1800'S BLIND DOOR CORNER CUPBOARD ROSETTE NAILS
A nice 1700"s to early 1800's dense yellow pine corner cupboard. It has two long full length door's with raised panels. Doors are mortised and the hinges are reset. It retains some red wash and some black trim color with traces of some white. The interior is fitted with 5 shelves and retains a nice oxidized color. The back of the cupboard boasts over 50 large rosette nails and retains a oxidized color. Right top wood has some splitting and roughness. There are some nail holes and overall shows some wear. Dimensions are 44 1/4 inches across and 73 1/2 inches high. You can leave the finish as is or repaint to your taste. You are welcome to examine this on site. Look at the pictures to see condition. A very charming corner cupboard from the Georgian era. Featuring a diamond and inset circular mirror in brass and glass. This is an ideal bathroom cabinet to keep all the smaller items or as a decorative and yet functional piece in any other room. It has been made out of solid oak with mahogany cross banding which is a wonderful rich colour and a fantastic patina. Which can only be gained through age. The cupboard would look fantastic in any room you choose to hang it in. The corner cupboard has two bow fronted doors which is complete with it's original lock(which has been photographed separately) and key which is fully working. There is a lovely brass escutcheon to each ... moreof the doors. The doors have lovely mahogany cross banded with lovely shaped detailing to the corners of the doors which sets them off beautifully. The doors open to reveal three shelves. The left door is held in place by a superb original hook. The top is finished off superbly with a nicely shaped cornice and there is a lovely shaped molding to the base. The front to this cupboard is wonderful. From the photographs you can see just how stunning the patina is. DIMENSIONS: The approximate dimensions are: 25.25 inches(measured from corner to corner) 17.25 inches along wall(this is the distance it would come out along the wall measured from the corner) 39.5 inches high. Also the approximate distance between the shelves going from top to bottom is: top 7 inches. 2nd 7.5 inches, 3rd 9 and bottom 12 inches. As can be seen from the above dimensions this corner cupboard is of lovely proportions. AGE: The corner cupboard is GEORGE III and dates to circa 1780/ 1800. Stunning wall-hanging corner cabinet inlaid with the Prince of Wales feather motif on each door. There is other marquetry detail as shown in the photos. It has one faux lock and one working lock both with inlays as shown and a key. There is a crack in the inlay under the lock. I believe that the cabinet is made of oak but I am not an expert. The exterior is in very good condition. The interior shows signs of wear. Marks etc. The interior also has red paper on the back. I'm not sure if this is meant to be there or if someone has wallpapered it at some point. The original glass has been replaced with one large sheet behind the glazing bars but it does not detract from the overall very pleasing appearance. Georgian 1790 Antique English Hanging Cupboard or Corner Cabinet. An authentic Georgian period hanging corner cabinet dates from about 1790. This beautiful cabinet was hand crafted in England of solid mahogany with delicate inlaid satinwood stringing or banding. The door panel is a single wide plank of figured mahogany. Hand chamfered or raised on the back. There is a shrinkage separation from age, see photos. Hand planing marks can be felt everywhere on this antique furniture. Hand wrought rose cut nail heads are visible on the back. A key works the wrought iron lock.
