Art Deco Waterfall Nightstands Bow Front Doors in Burl - Pair - BEAUTIFUL
MATCHING PAIR OF ART DECO NIGHTSTANDS. Circa early 1930s in beautiful walnut veneer. Waterfall design with curved bowfront doors in burl walnet. The dimensions are approximately 18" deep x 20" wide- they stand about 24" tall. They are simple. Elegant, and lovely to look at. These are in excellent. Unrestored condition. The front veneer is lovely- no cracks or chips. The only visible damage to the exterior woodwork is a tiny chip(about 1/8" square) in the veneer of one nightstand at the base of the unit at the back- not visible at all. One of the drawers has a small piece of wood missing underneath the drawer front(out of sight) and someone years ago put a nail in the area to effect a repair- none of this effects the operation of the door and you'd have to remove the door and look to find it. Overall, these have been ... morevery well taken care of- it's very rare to find a set in this condition. I've owned these for about 20 years. I bought them from a prominent art dealer in Washington. DC. When I bought them there was a maker's label on the back- I seem to recall the maker being Conant-Ball, but memory is fading and I can't be sure. Unfortunately the labels on both are gone- they were old decals that were dried out and cleaning and dusting over the years knocked them off. I'm not an art deco expert and I've done the best I can to describe these great little nightstands- they are real gems.

Very Fine American Federal Period "Bow-front" Chest of Drawers, Dresser Antique

Description: This listing is for a Very Fine Federal Bow-Front Inlaid Mahogany Chest of Drawers. Middle Atlantic States circa 1790-1810. Crafted of solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, the case has a single solid board top and sides, with stunning veneers along the facade of each drawer. The top has an inlaid rim with stringer inlay outlines, rectangular in shape while gently bowing across the front to conform with the case. The drawers are also bowed, each with fully original oval brasses flanking original keyholes over what we believe to be original locks with ovular stringer inlay outlining each of the graduated four drawers. They are hand dovetailed back and front, with yellow pine secondaries, the bottom board chamfered ... moreto rabbet into the drawer frame and secured with glued blocking at regular intervals along the frame. Each drawer is divided by a solid mahogany bar, backed by pine secondaries that go almost the entire way through the case to form most of a dust board between the drawers, rather unique for American cases. The dividing bars are hidden behind a thin piece of mahogany, presumably covering the dovetail slot joinery. The back of the case features all original boards, many with original iron rose head nails, but re-secured with nails and screws throughout. An original yellowed hand written label is illegible, but still present on the back of the case. The chest rests over four French feet, each with just slight outward splay and entirely original blocking along the bottom. The feet are cracked along the grain, natural as the grains run perpendicular to the pine blocking, but do not in any way compromise the feet. A fine band of yellow inlay framed by dark stringer inlay runs along the bottom of the case to complete the chest. This is one of the most beautiful Federal chests we've had the honor of carrying. The gracefully curved bow front shape is supported by slender tapered square legs. Contrasting inlay work decorates the drawer fronts and cabinet doors and cascades down the front in a series of bell-shaped flowers. The top drawer has been sectioned off and lined with green velvet. Mesurements are 25 1/2" High. 45" Long and 21" Front to Back. The thick QuarterSaw Tiger Oak Veneer comes from a mature tree evident from the mature oak grain pattern. This antique lowboy dresser is said to be from period 1880 to 1910. The four top drawers are bow front and the large bottom one has a flat front with a bow board below. The hardware handle/knobs may have been replaced. The curved Empire style front legs. Sides, the top and the drawers are all finished with the tiger oak veneer, the base for the veneer is solid oak.
