Condition: Used Location: Des Moines, United States This tall antique oak file-drawer cabinet with flat file drawers dates to sometime between the late 1800s to the first decade of the 20th century. The cabinet was manufactured by Rockwell& Rupel of Chicago, Illinois, and I have not been able to find another example of it anywhere online-in fact, I've only been able to find two file drawer cabinets made by this company: one is a smaller tabletop model, and the other was a wider one that was auctioned by Christies of London in 2006 for several thousand dollars. So, I think it would be fair to say that this is a rare piece of furniture. Probably used in an office setting in the late 19th to early 20th century. It later spent many years in use at a hand-crafted furniture company. When purchased it still contained piles of screws and cabinet knobs! As shown, the bottom two drawers are missing. I removed them, as they had been loaded down with screws and the bottoms were very beat up. HOWEVER, I saved the FRONTS(see second photo) and they could be attached as false fronts or of course a woodworker could replace the drawers. As shown, at some point in its long history the cabinet either had two top drawers replaced with one deep drawer, or perhaps only the cabinet pull was replaced. The drawer fronts have the remnants of old taped labels as well as scratches. Carved numbers, and plenty of wear. The bottom of the cabinet has significant wear to the trim, and I removed some of the side trim that was in bad shape. The cabinet and all its remaining drawers are in good structural condition and all the drawers are clean and open and close properly. The cabinet measures 60" tall, 30&3/4" wide, and 18&1/2 inches deep. Fixing this up is entirely optional-I love its worn. Industrial look and the hand-carved dentil molding and old-fashioned brass-plated label drawer pulls. These steps were made in England sometime around 1900 and we have recently imported them into our Atlanta. GA antique furniture store. Library steps like this were designed to allow someone to reach the top shelves of the bookcases in their libraries. Some are simple but others like this one are more decorative and add elegance as well as utility to the room they inhabit. The wood used is solid mahogany and the stairs themselves are covered in a green leather with gold tooling. A mahogany pole is central to the steps allowing one a place to use their left hand to keep balance while perusing books with the right. This pole is topped with a decorative brass cap. These antique library steps are in very good condition. The only wear is some superficial surface wear to the stairs as you can see in the photos. Structurally the steps are sound. At 180 pounds I am able to climb to the top stair and feel very stable. This is a very unusual find and would make a really interesting addition to any room with tall bookcases. These antique library steps are sturdy and beautiful. The four stairs spiral around the balance pole. Here you can see some of the minor surface wear to each step. The mahogany feet are quite sturdy. Brass drop handles are correct for period and have considerable age but the cupboard has had another set of handles at some point in its history. Minor dings. Some small restorations and marks consistent with age but a very well cared for family piece which has survived in remarkably fine condition for over 350 years. The larger than average proportions indicate that this press cupboard was made for a grand and wealthy household. Beds and press cupboards tended to be the most important and valuable items of household furniture and this cupboard would have been placed in the banqueting hall and used for storage of drinking cups and other vessels. It is increasingly rare to find an early English court press cupboard which has not been subjected to the elaborate carving that the Victorians frequently added to make their inherited furniture more fashionable. The style of the carving on the door panels is typical of the late 16th/early 17th century. Also. The carving on the stiles and rails is known to have existed from the late 16th century. The plain molding on the top is typical of the 16th century; by the early 17th century, the molding was nearly always carved or the top contained a carved frieze. The overall size and shape of the cabinet is typical of Flemish 4-door cupboards earlier in the 16th century, but this is the only one of this size and shape that I have seen with open shelves in the lower section. The center mass which incorporates the doors and sides has tremendous early Renaissance motifs. Italian influenced carving symbolism was merged into a French style, The use of architectural decoration includes vaulted pilasters& urns, oval panels below grotesque figures makes a very powerful statement. Deeply carved scrolls surround each unique masque. Finger carved dentils surmount frieze. Notice the spirals between each finger. Solid wormy ash and oak hardwood was hand planed and attached with carved wooden pegs on this historic furniture from France. Hand carved in northern France. The removable upper galleries would have displayed a woman's family pewter and china- these heirlooms and the cabinet were part of a bride's dowry, descending through daughters. Hand wrought iron hardware and lift off hinges are original. Every surface is uneven and irregular. Showing the skilled hand work characteristic of the late 18th Century. Delightful little mid 18th.c. example of a Cwpwrdd Tridarn. Or three piece cupboard, forerunner of the traditional Welsh Dresser and a form of furniture unique to North West Wales. Just 56″ wide and 73″ tall with a good sized top section with molded cornice, turned columns and primitive iron hooks to the top rail. Middle section with arch-shaped and fielded panel doors and turned droppers. On a three drawer cupboard base featuring shaped drawer fronts and a repeat of the door panels plus a narrow centre panel. Georgian solid oak bookcase cabinet hand cut dovetails drawer moveable shelves
Antique oak. I think, bookcase/cupboard with drawer below. I am not absolutely sure on the date of manufacture but it has hand cut hidden uneven dovetail joints. Machine made dovetails came in the 1860's. Picture 3 shows the inside, side of the cabinet with pieces of wood which can be moved to adjust the height of the shelves, one of these pieces of wood looks unoriginal. Picture 4 shows the inside of the drawer and the square cut legs. The cupboard lock in picture 5, along with the drawer lock are marked/stamped'H.A.S. LEVER' I can't find the maker on the net. The drawer handles are a cast iron tear drop shape, held with an old square black nut on the inside of the drawer. Measure 4 feet high, 3 feet wide and 1 foot deep. The only real decoration to this cabinet is the beading shown in picture 7, so this would look ideal ... morein an old or modern house with it's simple lines. Picture 10 shows the front dovetail of the drawer and the last picture the rear dovetails which have been chamfered at the back. I was offered a lot more money for this cabinet when I lived in London by a rag and bone man, I don't know why, so study all the pictures and make up your own mind. This really is a lovely piece of furniture with a rich deep patination and a luxurious feel to the polished top. I bought this 41 years ago from a farmhouse sale in Devon. It has been made out of solid oak with mahogany cross banding which is a wonderful rich colour and a fantastic patina. Which can only be gained through age. The cupboard would look fantastic in any room you choose to hang it in. The corner cupboard has two bow fronted doors which is complete with it's original lock(which has been photographed separately) and key which is fully working. There is a lovely brass escutcheon to each ... moreof the doors. The doors have lovely mahogany cross banded with lovely shaped detailing to the corners of the doors which sets them off beautifully. The doors open to reveal three shelves. The left door is held in place by a superb original hook. The top is finished off superbly with a nicely shaped cornice and there is a lovely shaped molding to the base. The front to this cupboard is wonderful. From the photographs you can see just how stunning the patina is. DIMENSIONS: The approximate dimensions are: 25.25 inches(measured from corner to corner) 17.25 inches along wall(this is the distance it would come out along the wall measured from the corner) 39.5 inches high. Also the approximate distance between the shelves going from top to bottom is: top 7 inches. 2nd 7.5 inches, 3rd 9 and bottom 12 inches. As can be seen from the above dimensions this corner cupboard is of lovely proportions. AGE: The corner cupboard is GEORGE III and dates to circa 1780/ 1800. Georgian Oak Hanging Corner Cupboard with Prince of Wales Feathers / Marquetry
Stunning wall-hanging corner cabinet inlaid with the Prince of Wales feather motif on each door. There is other marquetry detail as shown in the photos. It has one faux lock and one working lock both with inlays as shown and a key. There is a crack in the inlay under the lock. I believe that the cabinet is made of oak but I am not an expert. The exterior is in very good condition. The interior shows signs of wear. Marks etc. The interior also has red paper on the back. I'm not sure if this is meant to be there or if someone has wallpapered it at some point. On offer here we have a good Georgian oak double wardrobe or livery cabinet dating to the end of the 18th century. This beautiful example in good condition has a small cornice over two large fielded panel doors enclosing original hooks and later rails over a base raised on stile feet. Each of the cupboard doors are finished with geometric moulded detailing in the Jacobean manner as is the base. The panelled sides are solid in build along with the rest of the wardrobe and it comes ready for use in the home. Up for sale we have this awesome five bin seed cabinet. It has been fully restored and looks amazing. It has glass panels for each bin to fill with your choice of seed you would like to display or even sale if you would like to use it in a store you certainly can still use it but we have already put some seeds in it.
