Letting go of a few of my Surf Treasures! ~~~Vintage 1930's-ish Gantner Wikies Surfer Belt Buckle~~~(Sorry.my imac takes photos backwards so all the words& the buckle are shown as if looking in a mirror) In PRISTENE Condition.doesn't look like iit was EVER worn! The front of the buckle shows a BEAUTIFUL Waikiki-type wave and a surfer rolling along in his(Gantner Wikies) shorts! Looks like the Classic"Duke" Wave! On the front of the buckle i t say"WIKIES" and in the lower left there is a circle with the letter"c" in it. The back says"Solid Brass" and"Sure Lock" This buckle is JUST PERFECT! If I were to rate the condition.A+++: ~~~The last 2 photos show the super cool Gantner Wikies ads from 1937 and the men have the buckle on their shorts! Ads not included)~~~ I have had this buckle ... morein a glass cabinet& never wore it myself so I am not sure if there should be another"piece" But I dont think so. I think the cloth type belt would just insert inside this piece& the other end of the belt would have the little metal strip? There is a slight bow in the middle of the back hinged piece. But it looks so uniform, I am sure it was made this way. FYI: I have seen a later version of this buckle that was a two-part buckle. But I believe this is the original, first style buckle that was ever made: I hate to part with it. It is unmarked. The outside is made like it's a bamboo basket with pink design or flowers. There are two chubby little elephants on the front with their trunks up. It's a shallow pot or bowl. It might even be used as a catch basin for a smaller plot inside to hold any excess water. Or put it on the table and use as a bowl or put some popurri in it. It measures 5 1/4" across and it's 2 1/4" deep. This looks like other pottery that I've seen made in California and dating to the 1940's to 1950's but can't say for sure. Number 5063 by Advance Patterns, offers a short-sleeve buttoned shirt and lined swim trunks. The pattern is a size 40, which corresponds to a chest measurement of 40 inches and a waist measurement of 36 inches. The pattern is complete. With all pieces and instructions present. The pieces are pre-cut and unmarked, with all marking made in the form of punches holes and cut-out notches. This is how most patterns were made prior to the 1940's. The pattern pieces don't ... moreappear to have been used, since they seem to be still in factory folds. The envelope has some edge wear and a few small edge tears.
