This chest is in beautiful condition. It has never had a tool in it. It was a present that never got used. I cannot say it is perfect because that is in the eye of the beholder and i'm sure you can find some marks on it if you look close enough. It has the main key with it but not the key for the small drawer inside. It is approx. 26 inches wide. 16 1/2 inches tall and 10 1/2 inches deep

Up for auction is a vintage 11 drawer Gerstner oak machinist tool box. Model-042. I purchase this in1957 from a fellow machinist who retired. I used this tool box until I got out of college. It is all original and in pretty good shape considering it’s about 60 years old. Everything is there except the key. The leather handle is still in great shape. The box has been in storage for all these years. The tool box shows its age and wear, but I didn’t want to restore it. If you wish more pictures. E-mail me. H. Gerstner& Son's Oak Machinist Tool Chest The finish on this chest is original. I didn't polish with any oils or use any chemicals to enhance the finish. I only dusted with a towel and shined some lights on the tool box. Condition: The felt on the inside of the lid has a large stain of some kind. Looks like a spill of some kind. But it didn't do any damage to the wood. The felt in the bottom of the the top interior is in great shape. The mirror is missing a small nail(1 of 4) So mirror is loose. There is a large mark on the front, shaped like the state of Florida, next to the Latch on the right side. See photos) The key is missing- The leather handle is in good condition. With one scuff mark. It's not bad at all, but I've run out of picture space. I will be glad to email you a picture at your request. No structural ... moredamage at all. The box and the drawers are structurally sound and in wonderful condition. The drawers are original and 100% The bottom of the chest has normal use scratches. Here is a nice old box from Gerstner& Son. The box is the leather covered type and the covering remains in good condition for the most part. The front cover is missing and the bottom drawer has some damage but otherwise in good original condition. Has 8 drawers and measures 20" wide x 12" high x 9 1/2" deep. This handsome tool chest is vintage 40's/50's and has normal expected wear from that time period. It has the art deco hinges and spring loaded pins in the front. But the front label is gone.Clean- have replaced felt, key, mirror, and one drawer pull, all obtained from Gerstner. This is a vintage GERSTNER solid oak machinist's chest or tool box. Closed up it measures approx. 20 1/4" wide x 15 7/8" high( not including leather handle) x 9 3/8" from front to back. It has 11 drawers.The drawer bottoms are all made of metal. It appears to be 100% complete with all original hardware. The outside is in very good condition with some general moderate wear but with no real damage.There's some scuffs and understandably some surface wear around the areas that were touched most often. Bottom is nice and solid. There is what looks like a small drill hole in one spot on the bottom but it is minor. Overall the box has a great patina. The hardware is in good shape with some surface wear and some light rust. All the latches work very well. The drawers and top compartment have the original green felt in pretty ... moredecent condition with some wear and lighter staining. The felt on the backside of the drop front has some wear and staining.On the top compartment lid. Stuck to the felt are 2 golf ball patches on the opposite end from these patches is a small hole in the felt. I don't see and cracks in the wood anywhere.The little metal finger hole on the front is slightly lifted at the upper and bottom edges. This could easily be removed and straightened I'm sure but it is pretty minor anyway.The leather handle is in great shape and very sturdy. I do not have the key. Overall this is a real fine solid chest, great looking and sturdy. High bid pays postage.

Star- Gerstner? not sure if this was made by them but it sure lookslike the ones listed on ebay it measures 20" long by 9 1/4" deep by 13 1/4" tall.felt is original and has normal wear some compartments better then others the felt needs to be reglued in the top compartment on the edge has some minor stains mostly the top compartment it got the heavy use. the rest of box is good no key. Leather handle strong,all snaps are good has your typical wear of a vintage box.would look great refinished with the top being the most soiled I was going to use some Murphy's oil soap to try and clean the top but I feel its best to leave that to the buyer it is solid well built. All of the latches work fine. The center latch is marked H Gerstner& Sons Dayton. OH. There are 7 various sized oak drawers inside and the lid raises for more storage. It has a mirror attached in the center of the lid. All of the felt and cloth liners with leather straps holders are in excellent condition. I do not know what all of the tools are designed for but. There are more than 100 pieces plus containers. There are tools for holding the mouth open while working on the patient. Pliers for pulling teeth, various shaped scalpels, scrapers, tweezers, scissors, glass syringes, suture needles, clips, and misc items. There is evidence on the front of the case where ... morethe Dr.s name was removed and there is some wear as pictured on the bottom of the case. I don't see a name on it but it is a very unique box- 4 normal drawers on the right- standard top well but divided in two sections with mounted plastic pieces for holding small tools/instruments? Next to the drawers is a sort of display platform- there is a square cut into it where they would have sat whatever was being held in here. Could be a really nice jewelry box tool display small microscope kit display etc- the handle is broken see photos- the display section is 7" tall the square insert is about 5 x 5 1/2" The box itself is 16" x 12 3/4" x 8 1/2" outside is beautiful- inside is marked g8- I believe it's a special order gerstner with updated hasps and custom options but can't say 100% because it is not marked. All latches, hinges, drawers, knobs, mirror trim, chain, clip, ect are in tact and in proper working order. The sliding flip up door is a little loose on the bottom but still locks correctly when the top is suppressed. The leather handle is original. Case is in excellent vintage condition. There are scuffs and imperfections normal with a used item of this age. Please see pictures for exact condition. The outside is covered with that old fashioned"leatherette" exterior. The front folds down revealing a velvet covered working area that can be slid into the case under the drawers as convenient. There is a crack on that front that can be somewhat seen in the second picture in the description. The leatherette cover holds the front together well making that crack hardly noticeable. ANTIQUE OAK CRAFTSMAN UNION TOOL BOX GERSTNER STYLE MACHINIST CHEST LQQK!
Here's a good ANTIQUE OAK CRAFTSMAN UNION TOOL BOX GERSTNER STYLE MACHINIST CHEST. Did a bit of research on this chest. Both Union and Gerstner made these for Craftsman. The were identical in drawer configuration. Apparently the only difference was the lock. This one says Union on it. This chest is 20" wide. 8 1/2" deep and 13 1/2" high. This was found at a local estate auction. It was very dirty and still had left over tools and such, some of which is listed as well. In dry scraped this chest, cleaned it with lacquer thinner and put a tung oil finish on it. The hardware is all original and complete, with the exception of a small nail in the mirror frame. We do have the keys for the lock and it works fine. Two drawers have repairs on the front joints. They are solid and no issue. All drawers work fine. The front fits as ... moreit should and the chest locks. The leather on the handle is dry and flaking. All the felt is in place and tight. It has is stained and discolored in spots. Not real oily, but has a residue feel. Still does the job. Felt in one small drawer has a hole. I've seen one of these listed as 1920's. I found the craftsman logo in a 1942 catalog. So I'm saying 1840's for sure, possibly earlier. Overall this is a solid antique machinist chest that won't embarrass your collection. Ships Fast!

Vintage Gerstner Solid oak Machinist chest tool box solid construction new felt
This is a genuine Gerstner machinist 7 drawer chest. The lock reads Gerstner and the inside bottom has the large Gerstner stamp. It's very well made and is made of oak. Oak veneer and poplar. This one is constructed with finger joints at the bottom. There is no real damage to the box, but a small amount of veneer missing(smaller than a postage stamp) on the back. I re-glued the loose veneer with hyde glue so it's good for many years. The repair and what's missing is hardly noticeable, and at the bottom of the back, which is most likely out of site anyway. Additionally, the veneer at the top has a slight ripple at the joint. All the joints are tight and all the original hardware is present and functional. There is also some damage to the door where the owner was in a rush to leave work and pressed the top down without having the ... morepin holes lined up. The lock has no key. But it's possible that Gerstner can cut a new one. Drawers: The fronts are made from solid oak and the sides and back are poplar. All of the lose joints have been re-glued. The drawer bottoms are made with galvanized sheet metal. The drawers and the inside of the flip top as well as the center panel of the door has new green felt. All the drawers operate freely. The leather on the handle has deteriorated like many vintage chests. A shoe repairer should be able to fix that rather cheaply. The dimensions are: 20" long x 9 1/2" deep and 12 3/4" high. All in all this is a very nice box. In terms of condition. It's better than many I have seen. This will make a nice tool box for a machine shop, garage, or other storage room. One bonus is this box does not have an old musty smell that many have. It would make a nice show piece in a room in your house and could store your jewelry, sewing supplies or many other small items in style. The wood was cleaned and the vintage wood looks great. Up for auction is a Vintage H. Gerstner& Son Journeyman Tool Chest Built in Dayton Ohio. Based on my research This Tool Chest was built in the 1920's. The size is 12.5" High x 18" Wide x 8.5 Deep. This has 7 Drawers and has a great feature that allows you to lock the top 2 drawers while still having access to the other 5 drawers when the lid is closed and locked. or pull the lid up and lock all 7 drawers. I believe that it is red oak that was at one time covered in a leather. mine is striped like all the toolbox's of this era leaving the fine wood finish. Up for auction is a vintage Gerstner Oak Machinist Tool box or Jewelers box. It is marked Gerstner on the lock(key included) and built by H. Gerstner& Sons. Dayton Ohio#443 is stamped inside under the last drawer. It measures 16 inches high, 26 long and 9 1/4 inches wide. The box is structurally perfect with no breaks, cracks or missing pieces. The finish could use a going over. The handle is very strong. I carried it full of tools. Some of the green felt could use replacing. It has 11 drawers. These are great for collecting your prize fishing lures, jewelry, tools or craft supplies.

H. Gerstner & Sons Model C52 Machinist 11 Drawer Tool Chest
Below is from the brochure that came with the chest: The World's Finest Tool Chests From H. Gerstner& Sons Master cabinet makers since 1906. Style 52: Since it's introduction in 1930. The Style 52 has proved to be our most popular chest. It is well suited for persons who need a lot of storage for their precision tools. There is a vertical drawer for the machinist handbook. This chest is also designed to accommodate a 24" rule. This Walnut Chest measures 26" X 15 3/4" X 9 1/2" There are 11 drawers. One that holds the machinist handbook which is included. The other tools pictured are not included. I have not cleaned this chest. There is some wear on the green lined drawers and door from use. But it is not torn or stained. The outside could be polished to near new. I did not see any dents, dings or noticeable ... morescratches. A cover came with the chest and is shown in the pictures. It has come apart at one of the seams. I have the original brochure and an order form for selected factory seconds. It says the prices are good while supply lasts or until July 31. 1968. I have the original envelope, but the addressee is ripped off as well as the postage stamp date. The return address is still on the envelope. Genuine, Vintage, H. Gerstner & Son "Journeyman" Tool Chest
This is a Genuine vintage H. Gerstner Sons(see lock and badge) 4 drawer plus top shelf- machinist toolbox. It is wood wrapped in black leatherette. It does not come with keys. It measures 8.5X 14 x 32. It is an antique and looks like one with some wear and tear and minor tarnish to catches, etc.but the leatherette and wood is all in great condition except that handle needs repair/replacement. Felt is in good condition! Custom inserts for two draws are show. Base tray is mahogany, tool/die holders probably maple. Buyer will pay what the shipping costs actually are. Vintage Gerstner& Sons Machinist Tool Box W82 Walnut 13 Drawer + 1 Door A RARE FIND! Shows some wear from use but in no way abused. Also has four cracks but none of these cracks have compromised the integrity or strength of the box whatsoever and if filled with color putty would nearly disappear. They are shown in the last two pictures and look worse in the pictures than they actually are. There are two cracks in each of the last two pictures with the first picture showing two small cracks on one sides bottom and the other two on the back corner in the last picture. One of a kind Tool Chest from Gerstner as I have never seen a 13 drawer 1 door model before and this was NOT modified to create the door configuration. Other than that there is just some marks and scratches here and there with everything functioning perfectly. I have one key ... morefor the locking door. Largest single box made then. Thirteen drawers plus one door means that if the door was the more commonly seen drawer it would be a 14 drawer box! Measures 26" long 16 3/4" tall 10 1/2" depth. Email for more pics.
