The chest is made of solid rosewood. And not veneer, and is finished on all 4 sides plus top; with a cedar lined inside. The style is classic with subtle Asian touches evident in the brass latch hardware. And the feet of the chest. There are no carvings. The hardware is solid brass. It has a classic look. Never goes out of style, mixes well with modern or traditional decor. Could be used at the foot of a bed, for a coffee table, a TV stand, and many other uses. Condition: a few minor nicks and scuffs. But overall very good to excellent. No water stains. There is some minor shrinkage to the floating panels(top and sides) that seems to self adjust with more humidity as the weather changes. I am not the original owner but was told the chest was purchased at Marshall Fields in the 1950s. I do not have a receipt or any written confirmation of this.
