THANK YOU. Here is a stunning and very desirable approximately 150 year old antique Japanese small Choba tansu. Or merchant's chest, dating from the Meiji Era around the mid to late 1800's, featuring a lock bar in the center and classical safe compartment at the bottom right. It boasts a natural light colour with a rich honey patina, beautifully shaped hand forged iron hardware, wood peg construction and 8 drawers of various sizes that provide versatile storage options including a full width drawer at the top. It is in excellent overall condition for it's age. But has a little lock issue: as there is no key and the top drawer lock is in the closed position with the drawer open it will not shut all the way. The safe compartment has a tendency to swing open by itself since there is no key to lock it. The lock issue does NOT affect the lock bar which slides in and out of place properly. Please read the description and examine the photos for more details on the condition. Locksmiths and larger antique dealers will own sets of multiple keys to fit a broad range of locks so you should be able to get the drawer unlocked easily enough so it slides into place. With a little patience you could also find an antique key that fits right here on ebay(I can recommend a seller who regularly stocks this type of item) Other small issues worth noting are a small repair in the bottom corner of the smallest drawer just above the safe compartment. The larger top drawer is stiff to open and close due to age and needs a tweak, and one corner plate in the back is bent out of shape. Given it's age there is some wearing off of the blackening of a few small spots of the iron, and a couple of small nails are missing. I think that the samples themselves could be cleaned up quite nicely with an upholstery cleaner. The metal binding& the staples that affix the little tags to each sample are rusty. There is bamboo molding around the frame with a solid wood liner at the bottom. Hinges are old but everything still works as it should. There is also a chain latch. Overall the piece is in good condition but it just needs a good dusting. Rattan is splayed in some places but doesnt affect the overall structure. This is a lace-like intricately- made wicker mirror that is in very good condition. It looks very old and none of the wicker is broken. The mirror shows wear which is expected for its age. There are no markings. So hard to tell when, or where it was made. The wicker shows various shades of brown and is free-standing. The dimensions are: 13 1/2 inches at the widest area, by 10 inches. Here we have a gorgeous small trunk or chest. Has a beautiful patina! Fine brass inlays on the sides(pic#5) as well around the sides of the top(pic#10) Very fine! Made in Holland Circa 1960 Oak Black metal hardware Carved panels Some veneer issues on interior bottom Very good overall condition, This trunk is a great piece for extra storage in any room and would make a particularly nice looking piece at the foot of a bed. The oak wood and blackened metal look great together. One of the more prominent features on this trunk are the two carved panels on the front. They are well done carvings that depict scenes of eating and dancing. A very merry theme! The oak itself has a medium color to it which is contrasted with ... morethe black metal studs. Handle, and hinges found throughout. There is no lock on this trunk, it never had one and could be considered a blanket box. The exterior of this trunk is in very good condition and was obviously well taken care of. There is only sporadic light wear. This trunk was made in Holland around 1960 so you would expect this type of light wear from a piece of this age. Inside the trunk. The oak veneer at the bottom has come away a little in a few spots, leaving the white color lines you see in the photo of the interior. Nothing structural there, just a cosmetic issue that will be covered up by whatever you store inside the trunk. This Dutch oak trunk with carvings has a lovely look about it. Here is a close up of the two carved panels depicting Dutch celebrations on the trunk. The hinged lid opens easily. Inside there are some cosmetic issues as outlined in the description. Who inherited it from her mother. My best guess is that it was used to store firewood either inside or outside. It has iron hasps and handles; it opens as shown; it sits on an iron base 4" off the ground, although you don't have to use the base if you would like to display this piece indoors. This is a beautiful genuine antique Lane brand cedar lined hope chest which belonged to my grandmother. She was given this as a 9th grade graduation gift in 1952 from her mom and dad. I do not know the actual date of manufacturing only the year she was given it. According to the product information given below and the serial number. The date of manufacturing is 08/02/50. The color is a beautiful medium brown and made out of solid cedar wood and veneer on the outside and brown stain finish. This chest is very secure and sturdy.
