It is stained and varnished and is hand painted on each drawer front. there are different flowers on the drawers; and printing in capital letters- NEEDLES;BUTTONS;PINS;UTILITY. The box measures 10 3/4 inches high by 6 inches wide by 3 1/4 inches deep.I believe this is 1940- 1950 era. It is just a perfectly delightful little piece. Tall 7 Drawer Highboy w/ Federal Style Top& Queen Anne Style Legs; wood inlay style and design on front of drawers. The highboy has 7 full drawers; the top drawers are carved to have the look of 2 drawers. And the bottom drawer carved to look like 3. There are 2 brass pulls on each drawer(3 pulls on the lower drawer) all in good condition and well secured into the drawers. Foe brass key hole pieces on the middle 5 drawers. The drawers are in excellent working condition(pull in and out correctly) and the interior wood is in great condition(no stains, cracking, missing pieces) The top of the highboy has a curved pediment and a center finial with twisted carved bands. Vintage Oriental 7 Drawer Miniature Chest of Drawers
This is for a vintage oriental lacquered 7 drawer miniature chest of drawers in need of some TLC. I think it is from around the early1900's but am not sure. There are 6 small drawers in 3 layers and a 7th across the bottom. One of the small drawers is missing its handle. There are carrying handles on the sides- the same as on the drawers. Originally there were doors over the 6 drawer section but are not there now. The face of the unit has a volcano scene. It is approx 23.5cm long by 12.5cm deep and 22cm high. There is no reserve. There's a music box on the inside and it's stamped"Jokiwa. Not sure if the music box works. It needs a wind up handle. Inside each drawer is blue velvety material. Barguenos.Also known as Varguenos,were first produced in the 15th century in Renaissance Spain. They originally were in form of a portable desk and had handles on the side so as to be able to lift and carry. Some had a front on them that came down in order to use as a desk. They were mainly made of wood,which this one is,although I am not sure what kind of wood this is. My parents bought this while living in Quito.Ecuador and it has been very well taken care of. It is in excellent condition and a rare piece, one you will not find in many places. Besides being useful, it will be quite the conversation piece, and a novelty to boot. The top/desk has 7 drawers.
