But if you have to live with a mono, this one is great as it looks like a design. It is an H, the way they etched the H with the lines inside kinda matches the lines of the pattern on the sides. But it looks more like not coated well rather than loss from wear. This in on the front of the fork& handle and the back rest area. The serving spoon is 8 5/8" long, this has no plate loss. This is flattened on the bottom with damage like someone used it for a hammer, the marks are also seen from the front side. Still all in all they are to pretty scrap and would make a nice spare set. And like Yale, the manufacturer was also in Connecticut. That seems to be the only connection between name and pattern. The design is a well done one, complete with asymmetrical swirls and swoops and the obligatory panel for monogramming. Yale was also sold through Montgomery Wards for many years. Yale appears to have been discontinued around 1910. Victorian cakes were a very serious proposition: the device for serving them is called a cake saw, a piece which resembles a knife. On the top of the ... moreblade are indentations for both scoring the cake and for actually sawing away at a really tough one. The blade has a point, useful both for probing for nuts and fruits, and for nudging pieces around, moving them from serving stand to place plate. These wonderful devices became obsolete around 1910. Frequently, cake saws exhibit some of the most elaborate fantasies available in Victorian silver. These make ideal wedding gifts for cutting the wedding cake. The cake saw offered here measures about 9 1/2. This is not a piece of new silver. It shows the patina of as much as almost 120 years of careful use. There are the light scratches which constitute normal patina. There is no monogram. Silver is softly lustrous. There is no silver loss. There are three tiny nicks on the top of the blade. The blade has one slightly deeper long scratch, the result of age and reasonable use. The pattern is crisp and clear. This piece has been carefully used and well cared for. Antique Wm Rogers Yale Pattern Silverplated Large Serving Spoon 8" c. 1894
Beautiful large silverplated serving spoon in the Yale pattern by WM Rogers circa 1894. Spoon overall is in good condition for it's age. It does have some plate loss on the back of the bowl and the inside of the bowl will need a better cleaning. Polished lightly to show defects. Measures: 8" long x 1 3/4" No dings. Dents, pits, does show wear marks from use and very edge of bowl is a bit rough in a couple of places. Handle does have a light monogram. Thank you for looking at my listing. Simpson Hall Miller 1894 Yale Pattern Silverplate Serving Spoons - H. Zimmer
Simpson. Hall, Miller& Co. are the makers of these 1894 Yale Pattern serving spoons. The spoons are backstamped with"H. Zimmer" Hubert Zimmer was a silversmith in Poughkeepsie, New York beginning around 1865 and into the early 1900's but was probably just the retailer of these spoons not the maker. These large 8 inch silverplate spoons are in very good condition with just some wear in the silverplating where the spoon bowl sits on the table.
