Here are 12 antique 1847 Rogers Bros. 6" salad forks. Old Colony pattern. I believe they were made in 1911. I think they're in great shape showing only minor wear. They do need to be polished. Each fork measures 6 3/8" long and features an unusual horizontal bar design within the four tines. You are purchasing eleven forks. These pieces are pre-owned. Please review all photos and read"Condition" notes carefully. Markings The forks are marked"1847 Rogers Bros. XS Triple" Condition This(11) piece set of dessert forks is in very good condition with no plate loss to any of the pieces. One fork has a rub along the backside. On the left(see photo 15) and another fork has a rubbed area on the front(see photo 16) All the forks have small rubs or the beginnings of heel wear ... morealong the backside where they would rest, but there is absolutely no plate loss. The pieces were made by International Silver Rogers Brothers. The forks are 7" long. Condition: These forks are in very good used condition. There is no monogram. They measure 7 5/8" They are in very good condition with no pitting or plate loss. 4 Fairy Wands I have a fairy wand rating system that I use to base my pricing and description: 5 Fairy Wands- Pristine with no pitting or plate loss. They are shiny with minimal surface scratches. EXCELLENT• 4 Fairy Wands- No Pitting or plate loss. But have surface scratches from regular polishing. VERY GOOD• 3 Fairy Wands- May have a couple of pinpoint pits or minor plate loss. May have one or two heavier scratches or a patina from regular polishing. GOOD• 2 Fairy Wands- May have heavier scratches and are best for older sets. FAIR• 1 Fairy Wand- These are for crafting or replating. It is a Colonial Revival pattern taken from the pediments and urn found over many 18th century American front doors. The design was enormously popular in its day, is highly collectible now, and is a good looking pattern that wears well. Old Colony was made in both the pre WWI array of items, and in the post WWI reformed sets. In the 1920s, 1847 Rogers withdrew Old Colony from the standard retail outlets, and used it as a promotional item. It was the premium for a variety of publications, including the Prarie Farmer and the Jewish ... moreDaily Forward; selling subscriptions entitled the seller to a few free pieces, and reduced prices on the rest. The luncheon knife and luncheon fork came to be for a variety of possible reasons. Different people have different theories about the origin of these place pieces. Some say that the luncheon knife and fork are smaller than the dinner knife and fork because they tended to be used by women, who have smaller hands, at luncheon parties. Others argue that by using one set of knives and forks for lunch, the other set could be used at dinner, and the washing up could be done only once at the end of the day. 3 Dinner Forks OLD COLONY 1911 Silverplate Flatware Set 1847 Rogers Silverware
Elegant set of 3 Dinner Forks in the 1911 pattern OLD COLONY. By 1847 Rogers, IS. It is listed as a"Highly Collectible" pattern by Tere Hagen, 4th Edition, pg 88. These very heavy forks measure 7 1/2" and are in very good condition with no monogram. There are small spots of heelwear at the rear base of the tines, all under the farthest left tine in the photos. I tried to capture them with the camera, but lighting and angle have to be perfect to see. Use the zoom, and look to the left side. The silver has the gracious patina of 103 years and is polished and cleaned. There is no tarnish. Any gold is from the camera, the silver is lovely. These pieces are table-ready and a perfect addition to your collection.
