1847 ROGERS BROS. COLUMBIA PATTERN SILVER PLATED SEAFOOD OYSTER FORKS
Fine set of 3 silver plated seafood or oyster forks in the 1847 Rogers Bros. P attern named COLUMBIA which was introduced in 1893. This pattern is composed of elaborate scroll designs and is carried all the way down the handle to just above the tines of the fork. There is a stylized fish like design with scales that starts about one third or the way down the handle from the top. The design on the back is simpler but also composed of scrolled designs and goes about half way down the handle. They are marked on the back with the stamped“1847 Rogers Bros. A1” mark. MEASUREMENTS: 5-3/4” long The condition is excellent with bright plating. Items are pre-owned. Sold AS-IS. Please contact with any questions.

All hand cleaned and ready to be used. Measures 8 1/4" The 1893 Columbia flatware pattern was designed and produced by 1847 Rogers Bros. It was specifically designed for the 1893 Chicago Columbian Exposition to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’ discovery in 1492. The exposition was actually held one year later than planned. The Columbia pattern features a stylized dolphin wrapped around the handle. As with antique glass and other items of this period. I ship only by USPS Priority Mail& Express Mail, no exceptions. Columbia was introduced in 1892, and made for about 20 years. The pattern was part of the commemoration of the discovery of the Western Hemisphere by Columbus. The design is exuberant Art Nouveau with rococo flourishes and shells, and a fish with scales and swoops. It is a pattern that stands up well to use, so there tends to be a lot of place pieces about. It also was the first 1847 Rogers pattern to have a distinct salad fork. The fruit spoon comes to us with many names. Originally they were called orange spoons, and there was a whole technique for eating an orange. You cut a circle near the top ... moreof the orange, hold it in your hand, and scoop out the pulp with the orange spoon. Then when grapefruit were invented in the 1920s, this spoon became the grapefruit spoon. A variation has serrated edges to make cutting into the grapefruit work better. Old catalogs call them just the fruit spoon, designed for scooping out the fruit and leaving the husk/rind/peel. Today, the fruit spoon works beautifully with baked whole fruit, compotes or melons. An excellent dessert, and an easy one to make, is half a cantaloup with seed scooped out, and the hollow filled with raspberry sherbet. The 2 orange/fruit spoons offered here measure about 5 3/4" These are not pieces of new silver. They show the patina of as much as 120 years of careful use. There is no monogram. There is silver loss on the backs of the bowls of the spoons; inside the bowls are a few little pits, the result of prolonged exposure to citric acid. The silver is softly lustrous. I have seen other Columbia ladles listed that claim to be the"punch ladle" but are merely soup ladles. This is definitely the real deal! The oversized hollow handle is packed full of crisp ornate detail, so Art Nouveau! Words and pictures can not come close to seeing this 1847 Rogers masterpiece in person!
