Hi and welcome to my auction. This auction is for a Wm. Rogers sugar spoon in the 1901 pattern of Hanover. It is in very good condition for being 112 years old. There is a slight in the bowl of the spoon(I haven't tried to polish it out. I think it might) Other than that, there is nothing else to report. Up for auction by Oneida Rogers in the pattern Hanover are 6 bouillon spoons. They are in very good condition with no plate loss. One does have a pit in the bowl the size of the tip of a pencil. They measure 5 1/4" 4 Fairy Wands. I have a fairy wand rating system that I use to base my pricing and description: 5 Fairy Wands- Pristine with no pitting or plate loss. They are shiny with minimal surface scratches. EXCELLENT• 4 Fairy Wands- No Pitting or plate loss. But have surface scratches from regular polishing. VERY GOOD• 3 Fairy Wands- May have a couple of pinpoint pits or minor plate loss. May have one or two heavier scratches or a patina from regular polishing. GOOD• 2 Fairy Wands- May have heavier scratches and are best for older sets. FAIR• 1 Fairy Wand- These are for crafting or replating. When new, the bouillon spoons were offered as a premium for Rex's Beef Extract. One could send labels and get free bouillon spoons. For this reason, many collectors start off with bouillon spoons and build up their sets. Hanover is a lush Art Nouveau design. When entertaining, there is always the problem of what to use with the dessert course. Taking everyone's salad fork to wash up, and returning them for dessert is difficult to do very gracefully. The pastry fork is designed for eating the ... moredessert, and can be laid on the table with the regular silver. Pastry forks are used for eating just about any kind of baked dessert, not just pastry. The pastry fork has one tine thicker than the rest, which is used for cutting the food into bite sized pieces. This tine also tends to taper to a point, so it can be used as a probe to check for things like cherry pits. Biting a cherry pit is a memorable experience. Pastry forks in Hanover were made in 2 sizes. The forks offered here are the larger size, for eating slices of pie or cake. The 2 pastry forks offered here measure about 6" These are not pieces of new silver. They show the patina of as much as 110 years of careful use. There are the light scratches which constitute normal patina. There is no monogram. Silver is softly lustrous. There is no silver loss except for heel dots. The pattern is crisp and clear. Vintage Wm. A. Rogers COLD MEAT FORK Silverplate Oneida Hanover Pattern No Mono
Dress up your next cold cuts platter with this vintage cold meat fork. The ornate. Silverplate fork measures about 8-1/4 inches long and 1-1/2 inches at the widest. It is marked"Wm. A. Rogers(upside down horseshoe with R in it) SXR" on the back. The fork appears to be in the original box bottom. There is no top but there is a torn piece of paper bearing the company’s logo and"highest grade plate ware. I have no experience with flatware but I think this is fork is in Rogers’ Hanover pattern. The company. Founded in the 1890s, released the Hanover pattern in 1901. Oneida bought the company in 1929. My research indicates that Oneida continued to use the"Wm. A. Rogers" mark as late as 1978 and that the Hanover pattern is retired; however I was unable to determine the year Oneida discontinued the pattern. My best guess ... moreis that this fork dates from the 1940s to 1978. Please review the photographs for condition. The fork was tarnished and I gently wiped it with a silver cloth but it may need a more thorough cleaning. The pictures have some glare and reflections. Particularly black from the camera. The fork appears shinier in some pictures than in reality. The piece has some wear and scratches that can best be seen in the photos taken with the flash. The box is dirty. Beautiful HANOVER by Wm. A. Rogers Silverplated Sugar Spoon or Sugar Shell, 1901
This is a lovely vintage silverplated sugar spoon. Or sugar shell, in the HANOVER pattern by Wm. A. Rogers, in nice condition. It is 6" long and is marked"Wm. A. Rogers A1" on the back. This pattern was made in 1901. And the spoon has the usual fine overall scratches to be expected after years of gentle use and loving care. There are a few deeper scratches in the bowl, which can be seen in the photos of the bowl. It has no monograms. If you have any questions. This is a handsome fruit knife. It is in excellent condition. It has no monograms. And is 6 1/2 inches long. This would make a lovely gift for the fruit-lover who has everything! The beautifully curved blade is engraved with"Wm A Rogers Warranted 12 DWT. Twelve dwt means that the piece of silver weighs 12 pennyweight. One pennyweight is equal to 1.555 grams; therefore. A 12-pennyweight silver piece weighs 18.66 grams. This is only a measure of weight, however, and does not indicate the purity of silver. The d in dwt stands for denarius.
