We also found out they were discontinued in 1936. They are silverplate. These forks are in good shape and have some scratches and wear from normal use and storage. They are tarnished and need to be polished. They are being listed just as we acquired them from a local estate sale. It is an Eastlake design, with many of the familiar conventions of that movement: stylized flowers, vines and stems, a bow on a rod, and the cartouche for a monogram that could be applied at the factory or by the local jeweler, depending on how it was bought. The pattern was fairly successful, made and sold into the 20th century. Mustard is a trick to serve as it stains everything it touches. So care is needed in moving it from container to food. To serve mustard, there is the mustard ladle, which was invented in the 1700s. This is a small bowl on a long handle. The ... morebowl is small because mustard is not used in large quantities. The handle is long, both to keep the user from getting stains on clothing or skin, and to reach into the mustard pot while leaving enough handle to grasp. Some mustard ladles have a small bulge about half way down the handle to hold them at the notch on the mustard pot's lid. Because mustard is corrosive, the bowl should never be left immersed in mustard; rather it needs to hang above the condiment. The mustard ladle offered here measures about 5 1/4. This is not a piece of new silver. It shows the patina of as much as 130 years of careful use. There are the light scratches which constitute normal patina. There is no monogram. Silver is softly lustrous. There is no silver loss except for a heel dot. The pattern is crisp and clear. This ladle has been carefully used and well cared for.
