This is a lot or set of 14 heavy vintage knives in the DANISH PRINCESS pattern. Included are. see first photo below. From left) 13 dinner knives. Each 9⅛" long; all with hollow handles and silver plated blades. The blades are signed(etched) HOLMES& EDWARDS STAINLESS(see last photo below) 1 master butter knife. Just over 6¾" long The set was manufactured by HOLMES& EDWARDS INLAID- I.S. INTERNATIONAL SILVER COMPANY) and it dates back to 1938. There are no monograms on the knife handles. This is a relatively heavy. Very substantial set of silver- and, according to my silverware book, a very commonly collected pattern as well. It's really lovely, with a sort of late classic Art Deco shape. Consisting of a beaded band and flowing acanthus leaves at the end of each handle(see photos below) The set is in overall very good ... moreto excellent condition. With only gentle wear throughout. There's NO silver loss, NO pitting, and NO dark or worn spots- which is remarkable for such old pieces of silver! All shine very brightly, as illustrated in the photos below. Up for auction by Holmes and Edwards are four hollow handled dinner knives in th pattern Century. They have french blades and no pitting or plate loss. They measure 9 1/2" each. There are a couple of minor dings on the sides of the handes. I have a fairy wand rating system that I use to base my pricing and description: 5 Fairy Wands- Pristine with no pitting or plate loss. They are shiny with minimal surface scratches. EXCELLENT• 4 Fairy Wands- No Pitting or plate loss. But have surface scratches from regular polishing. VERY GOOD• 3 Fairy Wands- May have a couple of pinpoint pits or minor plate loss. May have one or two heavier scratches or a patina from regular polishing. GOOD• 2 Fairy Wands- May have heavier scratches and are best for older sets. FAIR• 1 Fairy Wand- These are for crafting or replating. Holmes& Edwards- Inlaid IS Measure 9 inches in length. These dinner knives are in very good condition for silverplate flatware that is 75 years old. Yes. They have been used, so there will be normal surface marks and some wear from usage and polishing. All have been recently polished and they look very nice. The stainless blades are in very good condition and I am not seeing any pitting, or oxidation marks, on the blades. Again, these have been used, but were well cared for over the years. They have a stainless blade. I could hear some loose in one hollow handle. Nothing appears wrong with knife but some thing in handle. First time I've ever had that. They do need a good cleaning. Holmes & Edwards IS Century 2 New French Hollow Knife Knives & Dinner Fork
Here are three pieces from the Holmes& Edwards/International Silver pattern Century. This pattern is from 1923. There are two New French Hollow Handle knives. They measure about 9 inches long. One knife has a Stainless blade. That knife if monogrammed. It is either an M or W. It has some light dents/scratches on one side. The second knife looks to have a Silver plate blade. It measures about 9" long. It is not monogrammed. The last piece is a Dinner Fork. It measures about 7 1/4 inches long. I do not see any plate loss on the fork. I will have other pieces listed. Four Holmes & Edwards Century Pattern Knives - Two dinner; two luncheon ?
For one bid. Four Holmes& Edwards knives in the Century pattern circa 1923. Two of the knives are about 9 1/2" long and two are shorter at about 9" perhaps luncheon knives) All clearly marked Holmes& Edwards. One of the shorter knives is also marked Holmes& Edwards Stainless Steel on the blade. The other blades are marked Insico Stainless. All in good vintage condition. The only real wear I can see is a little in the plate where the handle joins the blade in one of the longer knives. All could use some additional polishing. All are in good used condition. No mono, bends, pitting or dings, no heel or plate wear through, there are considerable light scratches from use/stacking/polishing, typical with used silverplate. I did give a quick polished to assure there are no hidden flaws, good shine. Will nestle in nicely with a moderately used set.
