Badges without the buckles began to be used by all regiments who were not using them on"The Order of the Garter" Honi Soit.etc. As such several regiments and police forces all around the commonwealth such as the 47th Highlanders and the RCMP had to change their badges. This badge is from my own collection and I wore it in the 80's when I served in the regiment before replacing it with a plated one. It is worn on a balmoral with a 3' square of Davidson tartan(heavy kilt cloth) worn with the tartan's red cross visible through the centre voids of the cap badge. The tartan is of a very heavy material cut from an actual kilt retired by the regiment and looks like crap with an inferior cloth used on a mockup repro. When worn on a glengarry though. All that is required is a small bit of red cloth behind the voided open parts of the badge. On a feather bonnet the red cloth circle is also used, but it is mounted on a wide black leather rosette that helps push the feathers back from the badge a bit. This is easily one of the most attractive badges ever created. You don't have to argue the point- just ignore me.
