Two Antique 19th Century Genuine Natural Good Quality Marquise Faceted Ruby Precious Gemstones from Ceylon. ORIGIN: Ceylon. 19th Century. SIZE: Length: ... more5mm. Width: 2 1/2mm. Measurements approximate. WEIGHT: 0.24 Carats(the pair) NOTES: Upon request we can set your gemstones as a ring. Pendant, or as earrings(click for more information) DETAIL: Ruby was worn by the ancient Mediterranean civilizations as an amulet for protection from plagues. Poison, sorrow, and evil spirits. Both the Greeks and Indo-Europeans(Celts) believed that the“heat” evidenced by the intense, red color was fire from within the gemstone, capable of boiling water or melting wax. Here are two very nice quality 19th century antique hand faceted marquise cut ruby precious gemstones from Ceylon(present day Sri Lanka) Both are relatively eye clean, of higher value character as opposed to lower value translucent rubies. Of course most ruby gemstones are anywhere from lightly to heavily blemished. Most completely transparent rubies you see offered today at retail are synthetic. While this particular pair might not be absolutely flawless, to casual scrutiny they are at least near eye clean, and are definitely at the higher end of the quality spectrum. At magnification(such as these 5x images here) they are seen to possess a modest number of very faint blemishes composed of colorless crystalline material. Nonetheless, they both possess the much sought after bright blood red color which has captivated mankind for eons. To the trained eye the photo enlargements will literally shout that the gemstones have been hand-faceted. The coarseness of the 19th century faceting is considered appealing to most gemstone collectors, and is not considered a detriment. Unlike today's computer controlled machinery, the cut and finish of a gemstone such as this is the legacy of an artisan who lived two centuries ago. Such antique hand-faceted gemstones possess much greater character and appeal than today's mass-produced machine-faceted gemstones. These gemsto

A fascinating ancient Celtic bronze toggle. Dating to approximately 50 B.C. A most unusual toggle. With the top end fashioned into a bull's head with ... morecurled horns, the eyes and brow incised. The lower end is modeled as a horse head, rendered in a rather reduced and abstract way, yet also capturing accurately the form of the creature. The central section of the toggle becomes the neck of the horse with the mane incised at the top. A horizontal perforation midway through. A beautiful example of imaginative Celtic art at its best. Celtic La Tene art is greatly admired for its free organic feel. Which lies in contrast to classical art that attempts to depict things in a naturalistic manner. Length: 36mm. Height of piece including mount: 62mm. Condition: Unrestored. Mounted on a beautiful bronze stand. Provenance: Inventory number: 89.111. From a prominent London collection, acquired in the late 1980's. Authenticity All items are unconditionally guaranteed to be Authentic as described. Here are two very nice quality 19th century antique hand faceted marquise cut ruby precious gemstones from Ceylon(present day Sri Lanka) Both are relatively eye clean, of higher value character ... moreas opposed to lower value translucent rubies.

However the ring was worn for such an extended period of time that though the ring is entirely intact and its integrity undiminished, nonetheless whatever engraved design it once bore was worn smooth. It is quite likely that the ring was worn most of a lifetime, as it would take most of a life time to wear an engraved bezel smooth. In fact the extent of the wear is significant enough that it suggests that the ring might have been worn during the lifetime of more than one owner. Perhaps it was a family heirloom handed down between generations. Though the ring was not originally produced to hold a gemstone. The large, flat bezel seemed to invite a gemstone. So we mounted a large, natural, antique, handcrafted jade semi-precious gemstone. Jade was extremely valuable in ancient China, there are records of an entire city being traded for a carved ornamental jade piece. Ancient legends attribute the Amethyst's lovely color to the Greek God Bacchus(the god of wine) The fabled land of India has been famous for centuries for its production of rubies, emeralds, sapphires, topaz, aquamarine, and other precious and semi-precious gemstones. The gemstones were not only mined in India, they were most frequently hand cut as well, more often than not in Bombay. These are bright, ... morecolorful amethyst gemstones, favored for their rich, regal, vibrant purple tones. Though Ceylon probably has the finest amethyst, the product is typically pretty pale in color. Brazil produces much darker and more richly colored amethyst, but it can be fairly costly. The amethyst produced in India is not as expensive as Brazilian amethyst, and it is much darker in color than Celanese amethyst. These gemstone earrings possess a very rich, velvety, visual texture. These gorgeous amethyst earrings are composed of the chips which are the by-product of the cutting and faceting larger amethyst by artisans in Bombay’s famous gemstone district. There are about fifteen of these gemstone chips. Hand drilled, very rich in both hue and texture. The gemstones are antique– which means they are not of the absolutely highest quality. For most, the unique nature and character of these antique gemstones more than makes up for the imperfections which by and large are only visible under magnification. However the chips were tumbled so as to smooth sharp edges, and the results speak for themselves- some very beautiful pieces of amethyst. The total weight of the gemstones is about ten carats to

Both the Greeks and Indo-Europeans(Celts) believed that the“heat” evidenced by the intense, red color was fire from within the gemstone, capable of boiling water or melting ... morewax. Here's an absolutely exquisite, exceptionally good quality 19th century antique hand faceted ruby from Burma(present day Myanmar) Hand crafted by a 19th century Russian artisan, part of an heritage renown for the production of the elaborate gemstones and jewelry of the Czars of Medieval, Renaissance, and Victorian Russia. The faceted cut is a coarse precursor to what eventually became known in the industry as a"brilliant cut" round. The contemporary finish generally given to round diamonds. Originally used in indigenous jewelry, this is a very pretty precious gemstone, with a highly desirable bright, almost"neon" blood red color and rich texture. This sparkling precious gemstone is absolutely transparent, flawless to the eye and even under high magnification(such as these photo enlargements here) flawless or near flawless. This precious gemstone is of exceptionally high character and quality. Of course most ruby gemstones are anywhere from lightly to heavily included. Most completely transparent rubies you see offered today at retail are either synthetic(read the fine print carefully) or cost $10,000 a carat. This particular gemstone is an excepti

Ancient cultures including the Celts, Greeks, and Romans also associated it with blood, and thus garnet was thought to stop bleeding or bloodshed between enemies. Ancient Mediterranean cultures also believed that a garnet could give its wearer guidance in the night, ... moreallowing them to see when others could not. Garnet was also worn for protection when traveling, as garnet was believed to warn the wearer of approaching danger. The ancient Persians regarded garnet as a royal stone, and only royalty was allowed to possess the gemstone. According to Jewish mythology, a giant garnet provided interior lighting for Noah's Ark. It is also believed that garnet, described as“nopek” was one of the twelve gemstones described in the Bible in Exodus 28:17-20 as adorning Aaron’s breastplate, representing the twelve tribes of ancient Israel. This particular variety of garnet is of the rarer and more costly rhodolite garnet. This is very clean, crystal clear, and exquisitely colored. Unlike ordinary garnets which have a smoky orange undertone, rhodolite garnets possess a rich, vibrant, bright red with an undertone of violet, producing the classic rhodolite"raspberry red" Victorian Europe was so enthusiastic about the raspberry red color of Rhodolite Garnet that they were called"Bohemian Rubies" In Africa this remarkable red semi-precious gemstone was known as a"Cape Ruby" during the Victorian era. However it is also possible that rather than attaching a bezel by brazing it onto the band, it is also possible that a gemstone might have been attached(the Romans used bitumen and pitch as adhesives) If indeed a gemstone had been fastened to the ring, it might quite likely have been an intaglio gemstone, i.e. a carnelian or amethyst(or some other quartz gemstone) with an engraved surface capable of pressing the wearer’s“seal” into wax or lead. In any event, when the ring was unearthed almost two thousand years after it was lost, all that remained were the bands and the three supports which had originally supported a bezel or stone. Vintage Antique? Scottish Dragoon-Royal Guard-Ceremonial-Coat Arms-Celtic-Flory
This is brush and mirror set is an estate find. I cannot say for sure how old it is or what it was used for. After showing this to several people. The general common guess it that it was issued to the Scottish guard for brushing lint off uniforms or taming their bearskin hats. Research led me to the fact that this is a high ranking guard on the metal emblem of the mirror and brush and that it would have only been issued to a high ranking guard. Not a"common" guard. If you have any information on these, I would love to hear it. Contact me with questions prior to bidding.
