For centuries both gemstones were commonly ... moreset into the pommel of the Scottish dirk, or“black dagger” a long dagger with a straight blade that is a prerequisite of Highland costume. Here are two very nice, very clean, very colorful citrus orange citrine semi-precious gemstones from the Devonian lava beds found along the coast of Angus Country, Scotland. The gemstones were hand crafted and faceted by a 19th century Russian artisan, part of an heritage renown for the production of the elaborate gemstones and jewelry of the Czars of Medieval, Renaissance, and Victorian Russia. The faceted cut is a coarse precursor to what eventually became known in the industry as a“brilliant cut” round, the contemporary finish generally given to round diamonds. Very popular in 18th and 19th century Victorian Scotland, citrine has remained a very popular gemstone through the 20th century. These are very fine, bright citrus orange colored semi-precious gemstones. Citrine was often found within the deposits with"smoky" streaks, as was"smoky" quartz, the result of eons of exposure to natural radiation emanating from granite stone the citrine is exposed to while buried in the earth. On occasion, rather than creating smok

Very popular in 18th and 19th century Victorian Scotland, citrine has remained a very popular gemstone through the 20th century. WEIGHT: 0.24 Carats(the pair) NOTES: Upon request we can set your gemstones as a ring. Pendant, or as earrings(click for more information) DETAIL: Ruby was worn by the ancient Mediterranean civilizations as an amulet for protection from plagues. Poison, sorrow, and evil spirits. Both the Greeks and Indo-Europeans(Celts) believed that the“heat” evidenced by the intense, red color was fire from within the gemstone, capable of boiling water or melting wax. Here are two very nice quality 19th century antique hand faceted marquise cut ruby precious gemstones from Ceylon(present day Sri Lanka) Both are relatively eye clean, of higher value character ... moreas opposed to lower value translucent rubies. Of course most ruby gemstones are anywhere from lightly to heavily blemished. Most completely transparent rubies you see offered today at retail are synthetic. While this particular pair might not be absolutely flawless, to casual scrutiny they are at least near eye clean, and are definitely at the higher end of the quality spectrum. At magnification(such as these 5x images here) they are seen to possess a modest number of very faint blemishes composed of colorless crystalline material. Nonetheless, they both possess the much sought after bright blood red color which has captivated mankind for eons. To the trained eye the photo enlargements will literally shout that the gemstones have been hand-faceted. The coarseness of the 19th century faceting is considered appealing to most gemstone collectors, and is not considered a detriment. In the ancient world, silver was fairly rare, and oftentimes half the cost of gold(as opposed to the current ratio of gold being fifty times more expensive than silver) Nonetheless though executed in bronze, this particular ring was definitely well above the ordinary ring of the era. You might notice that besides the fact that it is heavy(and even bronze was costly in the Roman world) and the ring is thrice the weight of the ordinary ring of the era, there are a number of other“upgrade” embellishments. The perimeter of the bezel has been sculpted in such a way. By cutting and then

However the ring was worn for such an extended period of time that though the ring is entirely intact and its integrity undiminished, nonetheless whatever engraved design it once bore was worn smooth. It is quite likely that the ring was worn most of a lifetime, as it would take most of a life time to wear an engraved bezel smooth. In fact the extent of the wear is significant enough that it suggests that the ring might have been worn during the lifetime of more than one owner. Perhaps it was a family heirloom handed down between generations. Though the ring was not originally produced to hold a gemstone. The large, flat bezel seemed to invite a gemstone. So we mounted a large, natural, antique, handcrafted jade semi-precious gemstone. Jade was extremely valuable in ancient China, there are records of an entire city being traded for a carved ornamental jade piece. Jade jewelry can be found in the tombs of Ancient China's emperors dating back to the 4th millennium B.C. Many classical scholars believe that some jade

Here's a gorgeous, delicately colored natural bright pastel purple-rose tinted sapphire precious gemstone from the Ural Mountains of Russia. The color is absolutely incredible, a pastel purple rose color, a blend of purple with rosy undertones. In natural sunlight the gemstone seems to be transformed, colored an even paler shade of purple, with pink undertones. However in artificial light, the rose hue is enhanced, and the purple hue darkens as well. It is a bit reminiscent of a reddish-purple tinted ruby, except the color is much more delicate, or a pink-purple amethyst, except with far greater lustre and sparkle than any amethyst. This incredibly delicate hue imparts really rich character and great visual appeal. The gorgeous shade of rose highlighted purple could perhaps be best likened those occasional petunias and pansies which are a pale cross between purple and rose, or that occasional purple rose which somehow seems to capture the fairyland color which lies between a deep pink blush rose and purple. The faceted cut is a coarse precursor to what eventually became known in the industry as a“brilliant cut” round, the contemporary fini

Antique Amethyst 14kt GF Hooks Celtic Warrior Amulet Earrings
Genuine. Natural, High Quality Antique Indian Semi-Precious Rhodolite Garnet Gemstone Chips on 14kt Gold Fill French Hooks. Handcrafted antique gemstone chips. About ten carats on each hook, mounted onto high quality 14kt gold fill french hooks. Most ancient Mediterranean cultures. Including the ancient Romans, Greeks, and Celts believed that amethyst would protect against becoming intoxicated, and would protect soldiers from harm in battle. Ancient legends attribute the Amethyst's lovely color to the Greek God Bacchus(the god of wine) The fabled land of India has been famous for centuries for its production of rubies, emeralds, sapphires, topaz, aquamarine, and other precious and semi-precious gemstones. The gemstones were not only mined in India, they were most frequently hand cut as well, more often than not in Bombay. These are bright, ... morecolorful amethyst gemstones, favored for their rich, regal, vibrant purple tones. Though Ceylon probably has the finest amethyst, the product is typically pretty pale in color. Brazil produces much darker and more richly colored amethyst, but it can be fairly costly. The amethyst produced in India is not as expensive as Brazilian amethyst, and it is much darker in color than Celanese amethyst. These gemstone earrings possess a very rich, velvety, visual texture. These gorgeous amethyst earrings are composed of the chips which are the by-product of the cutting and faceting larger amethyst by artisans in Bombay’s famous gemstone district. There are about fifteen of these gemstone chips. Hand drilled, very rich in both hue and texture. The gemstones are antique– which means they are not of the absolutely highest quality. For most, the unique nature and character of these antique gemstones more than makes up for the imperfections which by and large are only visible under magnification. However the chips were tumbled so as to smooth sharp edges, and the results speak for themselves- some very beautiful pieces of amethyst. The total weight of the gemstones is about ten carats to

Very popular in 18th and 19th century Victorian Scotland, citrine has remained a very popular gemstone through ... morethe 20th century. This is a very fine pastel citrus yellow colored semi-precious gemstone. As you can see from the photo enlargements here, it is to the eye completely transparent and free from inclusions, and possesses exceptional sparkle and luster. It is very clean, water clear, and very bright. The trained eye will easily discern from the photo that the gemstone has been hand-faceted. The coarseness of the 19th century faceting is considered appealing to most gemstone collectors, and is not considered a detriment. Unlike today’s computer controlled machine processes, the cut and finish of a gemstone such as this is the legacy of an artisan who lived two centuries ago. Such antique hand-faceted gemstones possess much greater character and appeal than today's mass-produced machine-faceted gemstones. This gemstone has great luster and sparkle. And to the eye is completely transparent, but it is not absolutely flawless. True, the blemishes it possesses are not visible to the naked eye, and the gemstone can be characterized at a minimum, to use trade jargon, as"eye clean" To the eye it is indeed flawless; however magnified 500% as it is here, you might be able to

CONDITION: Excellent. Intact. Moderately heavy wear, light porosity(surface pitting caused by contact with earth while buried) Professionally conserved. DETAIL: A handsome. Nicely ... moreconstructed Romano-Celtic bronze ring with understated but very elegant and sophisticated features. As you can see, ring’s band has a“bezel” composed of three supporting“legs” to which originally was probably attached a metal, engraved bezel which ultimately broke off. However it is also possible that rather than attaching a bezel by brazing it onto the band, it is also possible that a gemstone might have been attached(the Romans used bitumen and pitch as adhesives) If indeed a gemstone had been fastened to the ring, it might quite likely have been an intaglio gemstone, i.e. a carnelian or amethyst(or some other quartz gemstone) with an engraved surface capable of pressing the wearer’s“seal” into wax or lead. In any event, when the ring was unearthed almost two thousand years after it was lost, all that remained were the bands and the three supports which had originally supported a bezel or stone. Inasmuch as clearly the ring once possessed some sort of bezel or gemstone. The designed seemed to invite the(re)mounting of a gemstone. So as to preserve a sense of historical continuity we mounted a large, natural, antique, handcr

Vintage Antique? Scottish Dragoon-Royal Guard-Ceremonial-Coat Arms-Celtic-Flory
This is brush and mirror set is an estate find. I cannot say for sure how old it is or what it was used for. After showing this to several people. The general common guess it that it was issued to the Scottish guard for brushing lint off uniforms or taming their bearskin hats. Research led me to the fact that this is a high ranking guard on the metal emblem of the mirror and brush and that it would have only been issued to a high ranking guard. Not a"common" guard. If you have any information on these, I would love to hear it. Contact me with questions prior to bidding. Photos are primary description since I am not a collector of this item and would not judge this with the same keen eye as you. The mirror and brush are approximately 9" x 5" I am happy to answer any questions! International bidders MUST contact me prior ... moreto bidding to request shipping rates.
