This particular specimen is a relatively sophisticated ring and although crafted in bronze, was nonetheless surely costly. A truly exclusive ring would have been crafted in gold or silver. In the ancient world, silver was fairly rare, and oftentimes half the cost of gold(as opposed to the current ratio of gold being fifty times more expensive than silver) Nonetheless though executed in bronze, this particular ring was definitely well above the ordinary ring of the era. You might notice that besides the fact that it is heavy(and even bronze was costly in the Roman world) and the ring is thrice the weight of the ordinary ring of the era, there are a number of other“upgrade” embellishments. The perimeter of the bezel has been sculpted in such a way. By cutting and then

However the ring was worn for such an extended period of time that though the ring is entirely intact and its integrity undiminished, nonetheless whatever engraved design it once bore was worn smooth. It is quite likely that the ring was worn most of a lifetime, as it would take most of a life time to wear an engraved bezel smooth. In fact the extent of the wear is significant enough that it suggests that the ring might have been worn during the lifetime of more than one owner. Perhaps it was a family heirloom handed down between generations. Though the ring was not originally produced to hold a gemstone. The large, flat bezel seemed to invite a gemstone. So we mounted a large, natural, antique, handcrafted jade semi-precious gemstone. Jade was extremely valuable in ancient China, there are records of an entire city being traded for a carved ornamental jade piece. Jade jewelry can be found in the tombs of Ancient China's emperors dating back to the 4th millennium B.C. Many classical scholars believe that some jade

Here's a gorgeous, delicately colored natural bright pastel purple-rose tinted sapphire precious gemstone from the Ural Mountains of Russia. The color is absolutely incredible, a pastel purple rose color, a blend of purple with rosy undertones. In natural sunlight the gemstone seems to be transformed, colored an even paler shade of purple, with pink undertones. However in artificial light, the rose hue is enhanced, and the purple hue darkens as well. It is a bit reminiscent of a reddish-purple tinted ruby, except the color is much more delicate, or a pink-purple amethyst, except with far greater lustre and sparkle than any amethyst. This incredibly delicate hue imparts really rich character and great visual appeal. The gorgeous shade of rose highlighted purple could perhaps be best likened those occasional petunias and pansies which are a pale cross between purple and rose, or that occasional purple rose which somehow seems to capture the fairyland color which lies between a deep pink blush rose and purple. It is in relatively good condition, a crude imitation of course, with only part legends(misspelled of course) and the depiction on the reverse of the Goddess Moneta also crude. But despite all of this, the coin is quite significant historically, one could argue even more significant than one of the original, legitimately struck specimens, and far, far more rare. Th

NEW Ancient Chariots Celtic Roman Greek Egypt Mesopotamia Asia Minor India China
Chariot: From Chariot to Tank. The Astounding Rise and Fall of the World's First War Machine by Arthur Cotterell. DESCRIPTION: Hardback with Dust Jacket: 344 pages. Publisher: The Overlook Press; 2004) The chariot changed the face of ancient warfare. First in Mesopotamia. Then in Asia Minor and Egypt, charioteers came to dominate the battlefield. Its use as a war machine is graphically recounted in Indian epics and Chinese chronicles. Homer's"Iliad" tells of the attack on Troy by Greek heroes who rode in chariots. In 326 B.C. Alexander the Great faced charioteers in northern India, while in 55 B.C. Julius Caesar's forces were met by chariots on the beaches of Britain. Chariot" a compelling history of what is now acknowledged as the world's first war machine, traces the rise and fall of the chariot across the ... moreOld World; through Ireland, Rome, Greece, Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, and China. It examines the chariot's influence on modern mechanized warfare, and its resonance in the popular imagination, from ancient art and literature to the films of Hollywood. Rich in historical anecdote and engrossing narrative. Chariot" offers riveting descriptions of the military confrontations in which the deployment of chariots heavily influenced the outcome of battles and changed the fate of countries and empires. From 1286 B.C. at Kadesh in the Eastern Mediterranean, where the troops of Ramses II overwhelmed the Hittites with 5,000 chariots; to Rome in 67 A.D. when the Emperor Nero drove his own ten-horse chariot in the Olympic Games(he fell out but still won the prize) to Constantinople in 352 A.D. when a three-day riot, ignited by a chariot race, left more than 30,000 people dead after Emperor Justinian had to send in troops to restore order; the fascinating story of the chariot provides a key to understanding the pivotal scenes and personalities that have left their marks on history. With nearly a hundred illustrations depicting the chariot's influence in warfare. As a religious sym

GENUINE ANCIENT PROTO ROMAN GLADIUS HISPANIENSIS IBERIAN CELTIC IRON SWORD
I have seen two of these for sale in the past ten years including this one which I was fortunate enough to purchase. It is 100% genuine and original with no repairs or restoration. It has areas of conservation to stop some of the corrosion from flaking off but the antennae. The complete hilt and the waisted and fluted blade are 100% original. This is the prototype of the famous Roman Gladius short sword carried by the Roman legions during the Republic and Early Empire. This type of sword was carried by the Iberian Celtic mercenaries in the armies of Hannibal during his invasion of Italy. It took 200 years for Spain to be completely dominated by the Romans and the Romans were so impressed by the Iberians that many of them were permitted to become Roman Legionaires.Very very rare and seldom seen for sale at any price. The sword is not red as ... moreshown by my flash but it is a reddish black as seen in the second photo. I flashed it to show the details. Provenance will be given on request. The sword is stable but it is also fragile so I will not be offering International shipping. 006.RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fuk%600d72f%2B%3E006-1482b73fe3f-0x110-
