This rare Hardy Bros Anglers Knife No 3 is in lovely condition for its age. Please note the colour is silver. Not brassish as it looks- just my artificial lighting sorry! I think this is one of the nicest pieces of American folk art that I've ever owned. This item was bought here in New Bedford. Ma. with other early pieces of early maritime and whaling antiques. Of these items, many appear to have been sailor made. This is a beautifully made cutter,slicer, knife or trimmer. I'm not sure of it's original function but sailmakers tool were among the items I bought. It is masterfully carved out of one piece of wood with inlayed metal fittings that hold a blade.The handle is a sensitively carved ladies leg. It is truely incredible how nicely this tool fits into one's hand.Like a glove as they say.It has a wonderful surface. The coloring is such that it looks to have old paint but perhaps it's just the patina of an old wood surface. Description Antique early Victorian seam knife. Which has been produced from steel, with faux tortoiseshell panels to the handle. The tool would have been used in for needlework, to un-stitch seams and to make small holes in work(button holes etc) although it may also have been used to sharpen writing quills(like many other needle works tools, which have duel purposes! AGE The seam tool would date to the middle of the 19th century. Circa 1850, and was found in a Victorian sewing box, along with other antique needlework tools. SIZE The tool measures 6.5cm(2½" long when closed and 0.8cm(¼" wide. CONDITION The tool is in a very good condition for considerable age. Well the best I can come up with is that this is an amputation knife or blade. Dont know what else to call it. It came with other medical instruments dating around 1900 or before. I would guess this would be civil war but.it does not have a wooden handle. The handle looks. Feels like plastic.probably Bakelite. The stamp on the blade says Emerig Phila The box says W.H. Walmsley The knife and box definitely go together.to the point that the knife only fits in one way. Can not be flipped vertically. Box is velvet lined. One blade is scratched. My mother has brought these knives from Germany in 1945. She was there with the Soviet Army. She was a lieutenant of the Army at that time. She told me that it was the gift from her friend. I cannot say more because I do not know more. I don't collect knives. The monogram appears to be"CA" The handle is marked on one side with the silver 84 Kokoshnik mark 1908-1926 and includes the Moscow regional letter. The other side of the handle is marked with the maker's mark that appears to be cyrillic letters for"AG" and could possibly be the mark of Andrei Goryanov Moscow(see photos) It appears that the"CA" monogram was attempted to be removed(see photos) The cheese knife measures approximately 8" long and weighs approximately 2 ounces(57 grams) The gold tone portion of the server has no markings for 84 silver and some of the gold tone is worn. Antique Signed Japanese Samurai Tanto Authentic Japanese Samurai Sword Dagger(Tanto) Dating most probably to the so called Nambokucho Periode from around 1400. It is signed Morimitsu. The blade looks to be Soshu School. Temperline looks like Suguha with wild Hada. The Tanto is mounted in an antqiue Edo periode Aikuchi Koshirae with Buffalo Horn Fuchi/ Kashira and very nice Shakudo Flower Menuki with Gold Zogan. Koiguchi. Kurigata and Pin are also made of Horn) The scabbard remains in good condition and still has a worn but all antique Sageo(String) attached to it. Habaki is made of copper with remains of silver platting. This is a nice well over 500 years old signed Samurai dagger in all antique mounts. There are no Hagire. Sold as is.
