More properly called the penannular brooch. And its closely related type, the pseudo-penannular brooch. Are types of brooch clothes fasteners. Often rather large. They are especially associated with the beginning of the Early Medieval period in Ireland and Britain. Beginning as utilitarian fasteners in the Iron Age and Roman period. They are especially associated with the highly ornate brooches produced in precious metal for the elites of Ireland and Scotland from about 700 to 900. Which are popularly known as Celtic brooches or ... moresimilar terms. They are the most significant objects in high-quality secular metalwork from Early Medieval Celtic art. Or Insular art. As art historians prefer to call it. The type continued in simpler forms such as the thistle brooch into the 11th century. During what is often known as the Viking Age in Ireland and Scotland. Both penannular and pseudo-penannular brooches feature a long pin attached by its head to a ring; the pin can move freely around the ring as far as the terminals. Which are close together. Band is in good shape measuring 21-23mm. inner diameter. 11.54gm. US size 11.5 The bezel of this ring is decorated with thunder. Soldiers would bury their coins and jewelry before going into battle, and many of them did not return. They were also buried to avoid tax collectors and thieves. In ancient times, a ring distinguished an individual in a way that other forms of jewelry did not. Finger rings represented the language of social code, and connoted one’s social standing. Rare Original ancient Celtic thunder God Taranis ring swirl artifact intact
s Rare Celtic soldiers ring Attributed to the Thunder God TARANIS(mainstream at the time) Ring is in good condition and absolutely intact. Original light green patina. Band is in good shape measuring 20mm. inner diameter. 5.09gm. US size 10 The bezel of this ring is decorated with double swirl. Ring is in good condition and a Very Rare Inclusion to the very finest Antiquity Collection. In ancient times since banks did not exist. Soldiers would bury their coins and jewelry before going into battle, and many of them did not return. They were also buried to avoid tax collectors and thieves.
