This little guy is stamped on the bottom in red"Made in Japan" There are no actual chips or cracks. But it a little rough around the edges due to the time period it was made. This is a Antique Moroccan Arab Jambiya Islamic Arabic Koummya Arabian Dagger. Condition is old and worn. It appears to be handmade and while the craftsman ship is good time has taken it's toll on this dagger as it should for being so old. The koummya is the characteristic traditional dagger of the Berber and Arabic peoples of Morocco. The contoured handles. Curved double-edged blades and exaggeratedly upturned scabbard tips are all features consistent with such an interpretation. In the context of the traditional regional manner of dress, the koummya is worn visibly at the left side. Generally about at the level of the waist and is suspended vertically, with the scabbard tip forward, by a long woolen baldric, attached at either end to one of the two scabbard rings, and worn crossing in front and back of the torso and over the right shoulder. ... moreThis dagger appears to be very old and does look to have been used. as there are two small dents in the scabbard. My estimation is based simply on other items from the same estate which I am able to accurately date. Blade has some very interesting tribal markings. Leather and wire wrapped grip. Overall. F. sword was manufactured by the Gaylord Company, Chicopee, Massachusetts. This sword was originally owned by S. C. Downs who held the rating of"CHEVALIER" PM, PATRIARCHS MILITANT" in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows society. My eight photos will give you an excellent idea as to this sword's appearance and overall physical condition. The overall length of this sword is 34.75 inches. The blade is 28.5 inches in length. The pommel, grip, crossguard/quillon are 6.25 inches in length. I have owned this sword for several decades, but NEVER made any attempt to polish the gold metal grip wire, pommel, or crossguard. I felt such polishing would tend to remove the gold gilt ... moreplating on such metal surfaces? As it is, there is some of this gold gilt plating worn off some areas of the sword's pommel, exposing the pommel's base metal fabrication, which appears to be brass? On its reverse side, the gold wired black leather grip is beginning to show some evidence of use wear in three or four places on its high convex areas. There is no evidence of such black finishe use wear on the grips obverse side, but there are several tiny areas where the black finish has been flaked off the leather grip on its high, convex points. The sword's blade is highly decorated and features its owner's standing in the I.O.O.F. PATRIARCHS MILITANT" is the highest branch of the I.O.O.F. and is its uniform branch. There is only one degree in the PM, the"CHEVALIER" degree. With this degree, one is entitled to hold office in the I.O.O.F. Canton. S.C. Downs, the original owner of this sword, had been a member of the I.O.O.F. long and active enough, to have risen through the ranks to achieve the highest degrees and positions in the I.O.O.F. What remains there on one side close to the hilt it shows number 50. Sporting horn hilt and leather bound scabbard. A friend of mine told me that it could've been a Machine Gunner's short sword during WWI. Tell you the truth I'm not sure because I have not had one like this before. It does bear some resemblance to the similar photos I've seen on the Internet though. NICE OLD ANTIQUE BHUTANESE DAGGER NO SWORD
Being offered is a nice old antique Bhutanese dagger that would date to the mid-20th century but is a good authentic example and not a tourist example of the 70's and 80's. The dagger measures 12" in total length. The handle and the case are white metal. The pommel on the handle is nicely pierced and has a red fabric lining behind it to give a nice background. The grip is waisted and has multiple facets and is tightly bound with wire. The scabbard is also of white metal and very nicely decorated. You have various buddhist symbols along with some fish. Nice workmanship in the scabbard. The back of the scabbard is decorated with a simple floral pattern and the scabbard seam is visible on the back. This sword belonged to my Great Grandfather. I'm 65. That's why I'm dating sometime in the 1920's. This would date the sword somewhere around that time period. I have no real way of figuring it's age other than by this. In any event it's old. If any one out there can tell me a way to get a better handle on It's age by looking at the blade for markings I'll do so. Look at the pictures to see condition. The blade is 25" Overall 38" The blade is made by a well known swordsmith, he is in many books. His name is Masayau and he was from Owari province. The mounts are in decent condition. The tsuba and all seppa are stamped#9, they are original and matching. The sarute was the rope type but is worn away, you can see the remnants in the hole. This is a nice example of a handmade sword. There is a lot of information on this sword maker available in books and on line. You can google"Owari Masayasu sword" or similar and find quite a bit. HERE WE HAVE: 1) WW2 Japanese Katana Sword. This is a Storage unit find and we have gathered info from similar units recently sold on Ebay. We Have had(2) knowledgable ebayers send the following information concerning this Sword: 1) This is an officer style type 3 ww2 katana. not an nco. you can browse around about this type 3 sword. 2) Signed by swordsmith MASANORI. But why did you unwrap the tsuka to to remove the handle.When all you had to do was remove the pin and it can be done with out unwrapping.It will cost someone over $200.00 dollars to have it redone right! Most amateurs would take a grinder to fix the blade, or a buffer to polish it. You should leave well enough ... morealone if you know nothing about it. Antique Old Early American Eagle Head Pommel Sword War of 1812 Authentic!!!
This offering is a very. Very early American Eaglehead sword. This pattern began in the late 18th century, and was one of the first regulation patterns of the emerging US Military just after the revolutionary war. These swords were made in Europe and imported into the US as at the time the United States didn't have the facilities to produce weapons of this quality. This example has a straight blade, which I believe would indicate an infantry officer. The sword is all original. The hilt is snug to the blade, the grip will rock gently about 1/4 inch side to side. not a bad fit for something 200 years old! The brass hilt shows a lovely old patina and has not been cleaned. The carved bone grip has age cracks on both sides, but no chips or other defects. The 31 inch straight blade has a single deep groove about halfway on both sides. The blade ... moreis mostly grey/black, with some spotty areas of stabilized red corrosion as seen in the pictures. These swords got fancier and fancier as time went on, this one being so plain is a very early example and most likely saw service during the war of 1812. by the way, if we had lost we would all be speaking English right now! Now some of you may have seen the recent episode on History Channel's American Pickers where they uncovered a similar(but later) eaglehead that was appraised at $3,000. This is a Japanese Tachi sword in honzukuri mountings. The blade is unknown. Shinogi-zukuri shape, I guess Kamakura period(1288-1338 era) made Soshu school blade. The blade is in old full polish. Shows tiny scratches on surface but no stain, no rust and in very good condition. The temper line is wavy Midare with Ko-nie temper pattern and maru temper at the point. The forging grain is tight Itame-hada with Chikei and no forging flaws at all. The scabbard is urush and gold lacquered wood scabbard. Shows minor lacquer loss and in very good condition. Antique Japanese WWII Era Katana sword signed
Up for auction is what I believe to be an extremely OLD Japanese Katana sword. Purchased from an estate sale. And from the very limited research I've done, I've been led to believe that due to its configuration, and the signature on the tang, that it could date back several hundred years, and that it came back with a solider from WWII. This is a beautiful piece, very little rust, and the handle has been wrapped in rawhide at some point in its journey. Other than that I don't know a lot about these, I'm hoping that the photos provided will compensate for any descriptive shortcomings on my part.
