They are low dome about 3/8 in. across the shanks are about 1/2 in. long. as a helpful hint I will cut the shanks off a little and per-drill my holes and then I will glue in the tack mostly on the thin wood items. I will give a 5 extra tacks for the ones that you may break remember these tacks are about 200 years old and have a great old patina. The crescent moon shaped metal blade has a very t hin edge that curves around into a small hook. The handle is made of some type of animal bone. I’m guessing deer or elk. Size(Approx. 6 ¾” long. The handle itself is 4" x 1 ¾” x ¾” The blade is roughly 2 ¾” long x 2 ½” wide x 1-2 mm in thickness. The cut-down blade has surface rust in spots that should clean off fairly easy leaving a nice old patina look. I don't see any maker's mark on this heavy old edged weapon. The scabbard is a newer replacement that is basically just something to keep the knife sheathed. Very good condition overall as noted. It has a swivel ring on the end for attachment. And three blades. The small screw driver-type blade on the top pulls out releasing the two cutting blades on the opposite side. Not marked anywhere. Antique Sterling Silver Butter Knife. Over 150 Years Old. Heavy.Signed A.Stowell
This is the oldest butter knife I have ever found. Just a wonderful example of early silver. I found the name of the Company in my American Silver book. A.Stowell& Co. 1842.1844. Syracuse, New York. It is heavy and different in another way. When laying flat, the handle has a very slight curve upward. I don't know if it is supposed to be that way, or using it for years. Although it has a spot or two, it polished up beautifully and shows little wear. It is sold as is and I would like any questions regarding this spreader, which i will do my best to answer. This vintage bayonet is marked W.K.Cie Solingen. It is marked 1093 on the guard. There is also a B on the spine. A B on the pommel. The bayonet is about 17 inches long overall with a thick carbon steel 11 3/4 inch blade. It has a thick steel guard, wood grips, and a heavy steel pommel. This item is over 100 years old. It is used and has lots of wear. There is a thick dark patina on the guard, pommel, and blade. The blade has discoloration on each side. A very nice antique bayonet. No scabbard. There are no dents or deep scratches and the piece just needs to be clean. There are some scratches on the inside of the plate where the butter sits. Up for auction is a stunning turn of the 20th century fruit knife set with a silverplate stand. Stand is marked WMFM and 10C and has four feet with a globe with a raised pattern. Knives have sharp blades and feature beautiful hand painted gilt porcelain handles. Beautiful leaf pattern in blood orange. Pink, grey and gold. Stand is in good condition. It is wobbly, top bar is slightly bent. Knives are in good condition. No cracks or chips to the porcelain. Minor wear to the gilding. Blades need a good cleaning.
