It has a barrel type closure, not a modern clasp. There is also an early enamel and rhinestone leaf, as well as an enamel and rhinestone brooch signed Austria. The blue bouquet is a pot metal and enamel piece. The orchid brooch appears to be made of poured glass. I am not an expert in this area, so I am describing how it looks to me. The largest is French Jet[black glass] and has an intaglio pattern of a posy of violets. There are various signs of age to this pin which is part of its charm. There is no sign of damage and it measures 2" 5cm. The star brooch has claw set black and sparkly clear rhinestones. It is in very nice condition and measures 1 1/4" 3.2 cm. The filligree brooch is from a later period and it is gilded. There is very minor wear near the edge- hardly noticable. The cabuchon stone is agate and the brooch measures 1 1/2" 3.75 cm. Measures around 3.5cm by 2.75cm. Lovers' knot brooch. Tests as silver. Measures around 5cm by 3cm. Weighs 6.9g. Maltese Cross brooch. Tests as silver. Measures around 3.5cm by 3.5cm. Weighs 17.2g. Jet brooch. Carved thistle. Measures around 4.5cm by 4cm at its widest points. CLASPS All four brooches are fitted with c-shaped hook& pin clasps.
