Straight from a local estate. This beautiful akro agate slag glass bulb planter/bowl looks like new. It's beautifully swirled pumpkin color in white with a dash of wild electric orange here and there. It's rectangle in shape, ribbed on the outside and slightly flared and scalloped at the top. It was made by the Akro Agate Glass Company in the 1940s. It's signed 656, and fully marked with the company logo. A strikingly beautiful addition for your mid-century collection. Unset Late 19th C Hand Sculpted Carnelian Agate Cameo, French 18th Century Lady?
Offered for sale is a very fine. Unset, hand carved(sculpted& engraved) hardstone, orange and white banded carnelian agate cameo that probably dates, as judged by its style, to the late 19 th century. The subject of the cameo is the portrayal of a beautiful young woman in what appears to be 18 th century dress with long her hair done up in a coiffure reminiscent of the late 18 th or early 19 th centuries. She is wearing a low cut dress reminiscent of that period and has a simple ribbon tired in a bow around her slender neck. She also has a rose corsage and flowers in her hair. This cameo is probably an idealized portrait of some historical or famous individual of that time. Mari Antoinette come to mind. It is beautifully sculpted by a talented an accomplished artist-sculptor with great skill an attention to detail. The style of this cameo ... moresuggests that this cameo dates to the late 19 th. This cameo is medium in size. Approximately 24.5mm tall by 18.50mm wide. It is sculpted in high relief with fine detail. This gem could almost be considered a“two color” cameo in that the engraver has left a“blush” of color from another band of colored agate that existed above the white portrait layer to highlight the flowers in her hair and the dress on her shoulder. This is a very fine cameo very fine condition with no damage what so ever. The greyish background layer of agate framing the white layered portrait is polished. This is true sculpture in miniature. Which is what fine cameos are, they are art. It was probably brought back from Europe as a souvenir of the“Grand Tour’ and appears to have never been set in a jewel. Description: Vintage hippie necklace with a very large plate of brass in an organic form. That has orange banded agate wavy-wire-bound to it, really beautiful. On the back there is suede backing. This plate piece is slightly convex in form and measures 6 inches wide ignoring the curve and just measuring endpoint to endpoint. The height of the larger end measures 4 inches wide at the widest point. The smaller end tapers from about 2-3/8 inches down to about 1-1/2 inches. There is double leather cord on each end. But I do not understand the sense of this as it seems too small to me for most peoples necks, so you will probably want to replace the leather cord with longer cords, and we will leave the decision on this up to you. The stone on this piece is in excellent condition. The brass was unevenly patinated when we purchased it, so I polished ... moreit in order to get an even surface again, and it will re-patinate evenly now. The suede on the back of the plate is a bit soiled, but nothing dramatic, you can see this in the pictures. This is an unsigned piece. The stones were inspected by a certified GIA gemologist as mexican lace agate stones and the center stone is believed to be a fossil, it captured quite a few gasps at the boutique she has, its quite an unusual piece and weighs a hefty 51 grams, not a light weight by any means, very unique artisan piece, measures 3"W.
