From an estate in NW Indiana comes this antique or vintage porcelain over cast iron combination soap dish and water glass holder. This piece is from a farmhouse in NW Indiana built around 1885; might possibly have been an upgrade when indoor plumbing was installed. Soap dish measures approximately 4.5"L x 3.75"W; overall. Combination piece measures 5.125" tall. The only place where the cast iron is visible is on the back, left side at the screw holes which would be facing the wall. There are some chips to the porcelain which look worse in the photos due to the magnification than they do in reality. No indication of manufacturer; most of the use/wear is on the glass holder; this is a heavy piece, weighing in at almost 2 pounds without packaging, so please check shipping costs. Measurers 7" long by 5 1/2" from wall mount to widest part of glass. No chips cracks. Works. I first put water in it than liquid soap and it did not leak. Inside of glass globe needs more cleaning with a brush that I do not have. There is pitting as can be seen in pictures. When using this type of dispenser remember after pressing the plunger there will be some soap on the plunger rod that you can see and some soap does adhere to it after last plunge and it will remain there unless it is wiped off with fingers etc. but it does not leak. Here is a GENUINE and RARE ANTIQUE powdered soap dispenser circa 1910. When I got it. The nickel plating was almost completely worn away and the parts were fused. I had it restored to full working order and re-nickeled. It is now in fabulous MINT condition! It is brass underneath the nickel and the glass is thick and handblown with little air bubbles in it. The piece is marked and dated as follows: CAPHENIN CHEM CO WAVERLY. IOWA PAT MAR. 8- 10 This soap dispenser is wall mounted. It has a hand lever which releases powdered soap. T o refill with soap. T here is a spring and cam mechanism. You hold the glass globe. Pull towards you to disengage the cam and swivel until the globe is upside down. You can see this in photo# 6 where the glass is shown upside down. The glass unscrews from the base and can be filled. I know it sounds complicated ... morein words. But the action is easily done. This is a heavy. Substantial piece- weighing in at about 2 lbs. It would be stunning in a period kitchen or bathroom. It measures approximately 8 1/8 inches wide" center to center rear threaded holes" by 12 1/2 inches deep by about 5 1/2 inches tall. It appears to be a fairly unique configuration. I believe that this was originally on a porcelain Kitchen sink, although I am not 100% certain. We did not attempt to clean or polish the faucet and it is fairly dirty. I believe that it is brass; it shows oxidation/patina and I don’t know how to clean it. The bottom spout attachment easily screws out. One back wall mounting plate is missing. Following are the measurements: 8 ¼ inches from the outside end of one faucet handle to the other. The round soap plate is almost2 ½ inches in diameter.
