I believe the base metal is brass or bronze with a chrome finish. There appears to be some paint splatter or other dirt on each piece so a good cleaning will be needed. I did a basic wipe down with a damp cloth to get the dust off and show the potential of these great pieces. Each one measures 5 ½ inches tall; 4 ¼ inches from the tip of the faucet to the back of the stem; 2 ¾ inches across the handles; water opening of the faucet measures ½ inch by ¼ inch; threaded pipe is ¾ inch and the base that would sit on the sink is 2 inches across. This is a wonderful. Highly sculptural, large and heavy utility porcelain soap dish, which would have been mounted atop a large bathroom. Large kitchen or large laundry room faucet via a nickel-plated arm or stand. This listing is for the SOAP DISH ONLY- no mounting arm or stand or faucet are included. It is signed in the mold: Standard" inside. At the center. It was made by STANDARD SANITARY Company, some time between 1875 when the company was started and 1929, when Standard Sanitary merged with American Radiator Company to become American Standard, best known today for their bathroom fixtures. The design of this soap dish. Of undulating ... moresides, is typical of the plumbing fixtures of the very early 1900s, Art Nouveau design era, and therefore I would date this soap dish circa 1905. This soap dish was designed to be mounted[glued or plastered to] the top or accessory arm of a large kitchen or laundry faucet. You can use it creatively- it does stand on its own on a surface. But, you may have to add something on the base for increased stability. Please note that this soap dish DOES NOT have a drip spout or drain. So it was meant to contain any collected water. The drain pull is 10 inches long. The faucet handles are 4 inches long. The bases are 3 inches across. The pull is a koi fish.
