IL- ... moreFar west Chicago suburbs) UP FOR AUCTION: A gorgeous. Vintage, Art Deco, walnut waterfall-style cedar-lined blanket or hope chest. Elegant contrasting veneer inlay work on front center. It's unmarked as to maker. I think it's likely circa early to mid-1900s. I believe it's in original condition. It has one interior. Multi-sectioned drawer on hinges(in need of minor repair-see below) It's constructed of walnut veneer with cedar lining, and secondary hardwood(s) The back is unfinished. Wonderful for storage and display or seating, it's both beautiful and superbly useful. CONDITION: Overall. I think it's in nice vintage condition. Solid and sturdy. Only the tiniest bit of veneer loss that I can see: a few tiny chips along the back edge. Minor nicks, imperfections normal to vintage furniture. It does have some flaws: 1) the top surface has superficial scratches and age-related splits in the veneer(but they seem shallow enough to me that I think just polyurethane(were the top refinished) and/or a walnut-tone pore filler would be enough to fill them for a flawless(or nearly so) top. 2) In the interior. Lid, left side, the wood affixing the screw supporting the pull-out shelf is stripped(please see photos; the drawer is just propped in place in the photo) so is in need of this repair. I'd probably suggest filling the oversized hole with wood scraps and glue to fill, then redrilling the hole(possibly a larger screw would work) this is left to the buyer. 3) The locks on these old chests pose a safety hazard to children(won't open from within; children can suffocate inside) and can't be sold with the lock in place. I've removed and discarded it. Leaving just the hardware(for aesthetics) so it simply opens and closes, and can be opened from inside. You could always touch it up with a little light scratch cover or varnish if you wanted to, also a small piece of the bamboo on the one corner is missing which could be replaced with a piece of rounded wood. 8ONREPEAT VINTAGE CLOTHING This is an awesome Vintage 1950's KOWA ALUMINUM TRUNK. This trunk is made of wood covered in aluminum. The metal is riveted together. It features the blue Kowa logo badge. Kowa branded hardware, over 1/2 inch thick leather handles, and it was made in Japan. Kowa began making these trunks in 1954. The company merged in 1963 and the company name was changed to Fujikowa Industrial Co. Ltd. So the trunk had to have been made between 1954 and 1963. This trunk is in GREAT condition. I do not have the key to the locks but I am sure and locksmith could make a replacement set for just a few bucks. The trunk has some light scratches and dings that really adds some great character. Made in Holland Circa 1960 Oak Black metal hardware Carved panels Some veneer issues on interior bottom Very good overall condition, This trunk is a great piece for extra storage in any room and would make a particularly nice looking piece at the foot of a bed. The oak wood and blackened metal look great together. One of the more prominent features on this trunk are the two carved panels on the front. They are well done carvings that depict scenes of eating and dancing. A very merry theme! The oak itself has a medium color to it which is contrasted with ... morethe black metal studs. Handle, and hinges found throughout. There is no lock on this trunk, it never had one and could be considered a blanket box. The exterior of this trunk is in very good condition and was obviously well taken care of. There is only sporadic light wear. This trunk was made in Holland around 1960 so you would expect this type of light wear from a piece of this age. Inside the trunk. The oak veneer at the bottom has come away a little in a few spots, leaving the white color lines you see in the photo of the interior. Nothing structural there, just a cosmetic issue that will be covered up by whatever you store inside the trunk. This Dutch oak trunk with carvings has a lovely look about it. Here is a close up of the two carved panels depicting Dutch celebrations on the trunk. The hinged lid opens easily. Inside there are some cosmetic issues as outlined in the description. Vintage 1970"s brass metal storage cube trunk cedar lined
For sale is a vintage brass colored metal storage cube trunk. It measures 16 inches square and is about 20 inches tall. It is cedar lined inside for protection of items you might store in it. The trunk has handles along the side for ease of carrying. The metal on the outside does show some tarnishing. And some minor dings in the metal. It also has a section where the corner slat needs to be attached tighter. Right now it is taped but should be easy to attach tighter to the box(does not interfere with the function of item) This is a great trunk that could be used for many things. Cool piece of history Foot locker/ shipping crate from San Francisco CA to Cincinnati OH in 1951 From the Navy Base in San Francisco. It seems, to his hometown in OH Lt. Joseph B Andrews Jr. A"people search" says he would be 102 years old today- Joseph Bolton Andrews) Use it as a storage chest. A trunk for collectibles, add legs for an end table or coffee table, use it as a tool box, ETC! The color is a military green. With a very slight tinge of blue- hard to photograph just right. Wonderful vintage. Hand-made solid cedar dome top/ hump back storage chest or train trunk. This vintage chest is handmade of ¾” solid cedar and smells wonderful when you open it. It weighs in at around 12 lbs. unboxed. Has a pieced, domed lid with two handles that are screwed in on either side to make it easy to carry. It has two gold-tone hinges on the backside and measures 18” long x 14” wide x 12.5” high at the very top of the domed lid. The lid itself is made with 14 separate pieces of hand-beveled cedar pieces, secured with small finishing nails in order to form the domed lid. They are aged and one is a bit rusty but they match and will match the age of your box or trunk. I will combine on shipping but rates have gone up again. VNTG 70s WOVEN WICKER HAWKEYE Burlington Basket Trunk STORAGE COFFEE TABLE TOY CHEST This is a great little trunk. It's issued by Burlington Basket Company. Burlington Iowa. It's got pressed cedar walls by G&K Giles& Kendall of Huntsville, AL(sticker is dated 1979) There is some damage to the wicker, but overall the trunk is in fair to good condition. One wall is separating from the floor- it can be easily fixed by gluing, or tapping short nails or staples in between the current ones. It has nice brass corner guards with textured rivets- the closure and hinges are also brass. Someone has mangled the closure a bit but functionality has not been compromised. Measures 28-3/8" x 16-5/8" x 19-1/2" ht.
