Now closed, plumbing& heating supply house. ... moreThe valve was still attached to a display which consisted of pastel line art drawings of a boiler& a radiator mounted on a wooden panel. The advertisement& wood were under a bunch of stuff& wet. Thus too nasty to save. Too bad, too. It was cool. I do not know the exact year of this antique valve. As the ad was unreadable around where a copyright notice would have been. From looking at many examples of other valves& ads. I believe 1892-1904 is about the date range. This is just a SWAG estimate based on all of the information I could find. This valve is nickel(not chrome) plated. The plating has dings& scratches. As the valve was found on the floor& piled upon with stuff& junk. Nickel plated valves were often used in bathrooms to match the(then innovative) nickel plated fixtures& drain tubing. The wheel(handle) is a wood composite material. It is dyed. Not painted. The wheel's actually a work of art itself. The disc has a arrow to show the valve shutter's position. Flow direction) The screw is not stuck& the handle comes off. And will be removed for safe shipping. About the composite wheel- In the day. Artisans would make a mold of plaster or green sand. This one was a bit complex, having a recess& some divots for hubs. It's kinda cool. Next they would take fine saw dust& mix it with resorcinol glue. In the day. It was sometimes called'Brazilwood Glue' This mix would get pushed into the mold& allowed to dry. Voila! Instant Knob! Then they would all get sick from the dihydroxybenzene in the glue. Why not just use brass. Since the valve is brass? It would get too hot to grab. Why not plain wood? My guess is the heat would dry it& crack it. Or- Labor to turn. Antique Early 1900's Republic Nickel Plated Faucet Porcelain Escutcheon Plate
A super nice Republic faucet that was removed from a turn of the century Victorian coach house. This was hooked up to a watering trough that was used for horses. This fantastic faucet was still working when removed before a complete remodel. It stands off 5 3/4" from the base of the escutcheon to the handle. It is in pretty nice shape. There is a little spot of wear to the nickel as seen in the picture and some small stains in the porcelain that may come out with a good cleaning. This is in"as found" condition and with a little elbow grease this would glow. The neck pipe diameter is 1/2" I think this would make a killer back bar faucet with a temperature pre-set mixing valve and a copper or chrome neck. You don't see these anymore.

Here is a GENUINE and RARE ANTIQUE powdered soap dispenser circa 1910. When I got it. The nickel plating was almost completely worn away and the parts were fused. I had it restored to full working order and re-nickeled. It is now in fabulous MINT condition! It is brass underneath the nickel and the glass is thick and handblown with little air bubbles in it. The piece is marked and dated as follows: CAPHENIN CHEM CO WAVERLY. IOWA PAT MAR. 8- 10 This soap dispenser is wall mounted. It has a hand lever which releases powdered soap. T o refill with soap. T here is a spring and cam mechanism. You hold the glass globe. Pull towards you to disengage the cam and swivel until the globe is upside down. You can see this in photo# 6 where the glass is shown upside down. The glass unscrews from the base and can be filled. I know it sounds complicated ... morein words. But the action is easily done. This is a heavy. Substantial piece- weighing in at about 2 lbs. It would be stunning in a period kitchen or bathroom. It measures approximately 8 1/8 inches wide" center to center rear threaded holes" by 12 1/2 inches deep by about 5 1/2 inches tall. It appears to be a fairly unique configuration. I believe that this was originally on a porcelain Kitchen sink, although I am not 100% certain. We did not attempt to clean or polish the faucet and it is fairly dirty. I does show some expected signs of wear from age and use. The handles hot& cold handles turn nicely. What we are offering here is an elegant Gothic Victorian mixer faucet for a clawfoot tub or sink. It has ornate side handle levers. A tapered straight-down spout, and a small circular soap dish on top. It measures about 8½" from side to side, and 6" from the top of the soap dish to the bottom of the spout. The supply pipes are about 3½" on center. It is made of nickel plated brass, but the nickel is pitted and worn, and the two main hex nuts are badly burred from careless wrench usage. The only manufacturer identity I see is the word"Wolverine" on the stoppers. It does not appear to be in working order.
