IL- ... moreFar west Chicago suburbs) UP FOR AUCTION: A gorgeous. Vintage, Art Deco, walnut waterfall-style cedar-lined blanket or hope chest. Elegant contrasting veneer inlay work on front center. It's unmarked as to maker. I think it's likely circa early to mid-1900s. I believe it's in original condition. It has one interior. Multi-sectioned drawer on hinges(in need of minor repair-see below) It's constructed of walnut veneer with cedar lining, and secondary hardwood(s) The back is unfinished. Wonderful for storage and display or seating, it's both beautiful and superbly useful. CONDITION: Overall. I think it's in nice vintage condition. Solid and sturdy. Only the tiniest bit of veneer loss that I can see: a few tiny chips along the back edge. Minor nicks, imperfections normal to vintage furniture. It does have some flaws: 1) the top surface has superficial scratches and age-related splits in the veneer(but they seem shallow enough to me that I think just polyurethane(were the top refinished) and/or a walnut-tone pore filler would be enough to fill them for a flawless(or nearly so) top. 2) In the interior. Lid, left side, the wood affixing the screw supporting the pull-out shelf is stripped(please see photos; the drawer is just propped in place in the photo) so is in need of this repair. I'd probably suggest filling the oversized hole with wood scraps and glue to fill, then redrilling the hole(possibly a larger screw would work) this is left to the buyer. 3) The locks on these old chests pose a safety hazard to children(won't open from within; children can suffocate inside) and can't be sold with the lock in place. I've removed and discarded it. Leaving just the hardware(for aesthetics) so it simply opens and closes, and can be opened from inside. The buyer, if he/she desires a working lock, can probably purchase one through ebay or vi

This is a beautiful mid century maple two door cedar cabinet by Lane dated November. 1955. PLEASE NOTE: the pictures were taken in bright sunlight and came out a bit too light and orange in color.the cedar cabinet has a warm maple tone and is slightly darker than shown. The cabinet features shutter and paneled style doors with brass pulls that open to a solid cedar interior. The interior has two quality sliding beveled drawers with side handles. I have seen these sliding drawers on previous listings but they were just flat(no sides) and did not have the design and quality that these do. This would be great for sweaters. This listing is for a Spanish style trunk that came from an estate in California. It has hand forged iron hardware and measures 34 1/2" wide x 18 5/8" in depth x 17 1/4" high. It is a thick pine wood and is fairly heavy. There are large wood knots in several areas that add to the look. The latch on the front lock was bent forward at some point{photo# 7} and the lock key has long since gone missing. I do not know the exact age of the piece, but my best guess would be maybe 1960's- 1970's. This would make a nice home decoration as is, blanket storage after some hinge repairs, or perhaps a base for a coffee table after a good piece of heavy clear glass is fitted to it. This is a beautiful genuine antique Lane brand cedar lined hope chest which belonged to my grandmother. She was given this as a 9th grade graduation gift in 1952 from her mom and dad. I do not know the actual date of manufacturing only the year she was given it. According to the product information given below and the serial number. The date of manufacturing is 08/02/50. The color is a beautiful medium brown and made out of solid cedar wood and veneer on the outside and brown stain finish. This chest is very secure and sturdy.
