9 Antique Wood Spikes/Pegs * Post & Beam* Hand Made Mid 1800's
There are 9 antique hand carved wood spikes/pegs. 8 flat on the bottom& 1 pointed bottom- approx 7 1/2" long x 1" across the top- the pointed one is 9 1/4" long x 1" across the top. I do not know if they are oak or hickory or something else. They do not look like oak to me- they look like hickory however I am no expert on wood. These are not weathered at all do to the fact that they were found stored as extras or left overs from my Mom& Dads Barn or house when it was built. These actually came from my parents house in Central New York. My Mom found them when she& my Dad purchased the house in 1950- She was 20 years old- she is 83 now. The house& barn were built in the mid 1800's(pre civil war) they still live there today! She gave them to me& told me the story on finding them stored in the eves ... moreof this pre civil war house. She has also stored them ever since she found them so that is why they are in such great condition& are not weathered. All have the same star design with a flower shape at the center of the star and surrounded by a curlicure border. Accented with gold. Three of the four are black and I believe are gutta percha. The fourth is a substance that seems similar but is a rich reddish brown. All are marked“Patented January 1868” All have the original old nails in back. The fronts are about 1” across. The brown one has a tiny hint of wear at the very back edge(where nail inserts) rim but is sturdy and crisp looking. The three black ones have touches of wear to gold. The hangers have a nice checkerboard designs with 4 gold flowers and 1 red flower in some of the squares. Brass body is in great condition. These decorative pieces were used in the victorian days to hang pictures. Some were backed with nails and some had a threaded screw. This pair of BLUE GLASS PICTURE HANGERS have threaded screws. Condition of one is excellent. The other one has 2 chips. The one on the right side in the pictures has the chips. The chips are on the edge triangles. One at 10 o'clock& the other at 5 o'clock. 4 SUPER RARE ANTIQUE VICTORIAN MILK GLASS BULLDOG PICTURE NAIL/ SCREW 4 Super rare antique victorian painted milk glass BULLDOG PICTURE NAIL/ SCREW. These decorative pieces were used in the victorian days to hang pictures. Some were backed with nails and some had a threaded screw. These 4 BULLDOG PICTURE HANGERS have threaded screws. Conditions vary. They are in as-found condition. Each face has different degrees of color and paint loss. The darker faced ones have some edge chips on the white porcelain and one of the lighter faced ones has an edge chip on the white pocelain. The faces on the dogs have no chips or cracks. One face is quite dirty. The brass cases on 2 are good. The other 2 on one has a slight dent and one is somewhat beat up in several areas as seen in pictures. Used Old Antique Round Nail Head Nails Lot of 50
This auction is for 50 antique nails which were found in my house which was built in 1850 and had various additions added over the years. I tried to save these in case someone else would have a need for them. They could be used in vintage furniture restoration. Crafts, numerous projects for the antique effect. They are approximately 1.25" long and have a round head and a round body. These nails are what is referred to as"wire nails. By 1886. 10 percent of the nails produced in the United States were made of soft steel wire. Within six years, more steel-wire nails were being produced than iron-cut nails. By 1913, 90 percent were wire nails. I am not able to say for sure what year these particular nails were made. All these nails are used. Rusty and some are bent, but not many. Mostly surface rust which can be cleaned up and straightened ... moreand reusable. Not all nails are exactly alike or even exactly the same size. This listing is for a display pack of old fashioned cut nails from Tremont Nail Co. A fascinating bit of architectural history. Would make an interesting display for historical architecture enthusiast. Packaging has some yellowing due to age. But is intact with no tears and still holds nails securely. Nails have surface rust, which I did not attempt to clean as some might see that as a design feature. I do think it would clean off easily though, if you wanted it gone. See photos for details.
