PA that were built in the 1800's. 03-6*They have weathered over the years and they have a few water stains. Worm holes and air dry cracks. They were driven into the mortise joints in a post and beam constructed house or barn. They are in a nice rustic condition and would make great hanging hooks or pegs for all sorts of things. Unusual collection of 5 hand-forged nails. Mounted on wood, inscribed on back"Hand Wrought Nails Tippycanoe Barn 1863. This came from southern Michigan. So I assume the owner actually means Tippecanoe, Indiana. The nails match the vintage of the inscription: cut nails. Rectangular, tapered, and the heads attached to the shaft afterwards- though rusted you can see this in the photo. The two short nails are three inches. The three long nails are 4.25 to 4.5 inches. The center nail needs to be re-anchored to base. Wood base measures roughly 6 x 7 x 7 inches. Is just under an inch thick, and has a hanger on the back. It looks like it may be wood from the original barn. A unique item for collectors of early Americana. Barn or architectural items, or Indiana memorabilia! Please ask questions before bidding. 9 Antique Wood Spikes/Pegs * Post & Beam* Hand Made Mid 1800's
There are 9 antique hand carved wood spikes/pegs. 8 flat on the bottom& 1 pointed bottom- approx 7 1/2" long x 1" across the top- the pointed one is 9 1/4" long x 1" across the top. I do not know if they are oak or hickory or something else. They do not look like oak to me- they look like hickory however I am no expert on wood. These are not weathered at all do to the fact that they were found stored as extras or left overs from my Mom& Dads Barn or house when it was built. These actually came from my parents house in Central New York. My Mom found them when she& my Dad purchased the house in 1950- She was 20 years old- she is 83 now. The house& barn were built in the mid 1800's(pre civil war) they still live there today! She gave them to me& told me the story on finding them stored in the eves ... moreof this pre civil war house. She has also stored them ever since she found them so that is why they are in such great condition& are not weathered. She says sell them to someone that can appreciate them- so here they are out for auction to someone that would like to have them to use or collect! Antique hand made wood spikes and old rusted nails. 28 nails are right about 5" long and 1 is 3" long. The wood spikes range in size from 12" down to 3 3/4" As you can see from the pictures a few of the spikes splintered on the end and some were broken off but for the most part they are in good condition. Nails are rusty and dirty. These all were found in an old wood paint bucket from the late 1800's out of Pittsburgh Pa.

Antique Early Vintage Blacksmith's Nail Header Tool w/Early Hand Wrought Spike
Both items are from my own collection and did not come together as a set. I married these two cuz the spike fit the anvil so well. The spike could have been a stone chisel, I suppose and the nail heading tool could have been a square wrench, but I think not because the square hole is tapered thru to the other side and the top, anvil side has a slight bevel heading down to the outer edge from the square hole. The spike does not seat to the anvil from the under(flat)side direction. The spike has a blunt end and needs sharpening. I've had this spike since I was a kid in the 50's and I think it's a work of art. As is! Can't get a too much better marriage fit. Looks like this tool made this square spike. The tool is only, almost 8-1/2 inches long and the spike is about 7-1/2 inches long. The top(anvil) side hole is 5/8 inch square ... moreand the bottom, flat side is a fraction over 1/2 inch.almost 9/16 inch. I see no signs of early blacksmith's hot folded or overlapped iron so I can't be certain as to the actual ages of either pieces. But if you don't like them when you get'em in your hot hands you can send them back for a full refund. Communication is key! I love this antique or vintage stuff I sell. Usually from my own collection, rarely do I buy-to-sell. I want you to love these items too and if you don't please let ME know, NOT eBay, I will do anything you would like to make you happy. This lot of various sized hand-cut antique iron nails was taken from the site of a southern Maine meeting house that burned once in the late 1700s. Was rebuilt, and burned again in the mid- 1800s. These are believed to date from 1800-1850.
