They were driven into the mortise joints in a post and beam constructed house or barn. They are in a nice rustic condition and would make great hanging hooks or pegs for all sorts of things. Coats, pots and pans, dry flowers, and decorations. The 8 sided pegs are nicely made and have a real rustic look. These pegs are 7" to 6 3/8" long. 9 Antique Wood Spikes/Pegs * Post & Beam* Hand Made Mid 1800's
There are 9 antique hand carved wood spikes/pegs. 8 flat on the bottom& 1 pointed bottom- approx 7 1/2" long x 1" across the top- the pointed one is 9 1/4" long x 1" across the top. I do not know if they are oak or hickory or something else. They do not look like oak to me- they look like hickory however I am no expert on wood. These are not weathered at all do to the fact that they were found stored as extras or left overs from my Mom& Dads Barn or house when it was built. These actually came from my parents house in Central New York. My Mom found them when she& my Dad purchased the house in 1950- She was 20 years old- she is 83 now. The house& barn were built in the mid 1800's(pre civil war) they still live there today! She gave them to me& told me the story on finding them stored in the eves ... moreof this pre civil war house. She has also stored them ever since she found them so that is why they are in such great condition& are not weathered. She says sell them to someone that can appreciate them- so here they are out for auction to someone that would like to have them to use or collect! Antique Wood Spikes Trunnel Pegs Primitive Nails -Post & Beam Fastners Hand Made
Antique hand made wood spikes and old rusted nails. 28 nails are right about 5" long and 1 is 3" long. The wood spikes range in size from 12" down to 3 3/4" As you can see from the pictures a few of the spikes splintered on the end and some were broken off but for the most part they are in good condition. Nails are rusty and dirty. These all were found in an old wood paint bucket from the late 1800's out of Pittsburgh Pa.

Set of 2 hand hewn oak pegs found at site of Tennessee cantilever barn being taken down. Good solid condition with some nice worm holes. These have been stored inside for several years. So no pests to worry about. Great addition to a rough hewn mantle- just in time for hanging the stockings with care!
