Early 1900's California codfish industry Antique vintage Stereoview card
5376 The Universal Photo Art Company was one of several business titles under which photographer Carlton Harlow Graves sold his photographs late in his career. He was the son of Jesse Albert Graves. An important early worker who was based in the Delaware Water Gap area of Pennsylvania in the 1860-1880 time frame and produced some 500 generally fine scenic views of the western part of the state. Carlton learned the photographic art from his father and moved to Philadelphia to began producing on his own in about 1880. In his early years, he seems to have taken all the views which he published, but he soon began to buy or pirate images from others. Stereoviews issued under his own name are extremely rare. At its peak, The Universal Photo Art Company seems to have been a rather substantial outfit. In addition to the headquarters offices and production ... morefacilities in Philadelphia, there was a western branch in Naperville, Ill. under F. A. Messerschmidt as general manager. There are numbers listed to almost to 5,000, although the number of individual photos actually used is only about 1,300. By the late 1890’s, C. H. Graves company became a major publisher offering"Art Nouveau Stereographs" on light gray curved mounts. His trade list offered excellent views of hunting scenes, Jamaica, Japan, Java, New York City, Palestine and others. To compete with low priced lithographs and copies, Graves offered his"Universal Series" or"Universal Views" on black mounts with no credit to himself. These have the number and the title in the negative and were sold at a reduced price from the regular"Art Nouveau" issues. Graves also offered boxed sets but they were not sold in the quantities of Underwood and Underwood, the Keystone View Company and H. C. White. The company seems to have been active until about 1910 when its stock of negatives were sold to Underwood& Underwood and presumably went from there to the Keystone View Company with the rest of the Underwood photos. 1981 Vintage Garfield Cassette Stere o Tested and working both battery and AC adapter cord. Cor d and batter ies not included. Works just fin e didn't eat the tape or anything. If you wiggle the cord and not have it in all the way it will come out with static but that is because I had to test it with a newer cord and it didn't fit tight like it should o f but once there is power to it works just fine. On ly minor blemishes on it. V ery small scuff marks on his right arm and a very little bit of the paint on his left lip line as you can see in the second to last picture. That was a bit tired. The interesting advert was published at the height of WW2. The War caused a paper shortage so all newspaper adverts were kept small as were publications. 1940 Standards of Hydraulic Institute, NY: Vintage PUMP Trade Industry Pamphlet
1940 STANDARDS OF HYDRAULIC INSTITUTE SEVENTH EDITION 90 WEST ST. NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. This listing is for an original 1940 pamphlet book from the pump trade industry organization Hydraulic Institute in New York City. It was founded in 1917 and still exists today. This is the 7th edition of this publication from 1940. The cover is dated 1937. Copyright inside is 1936 and this is the printing from 1940. I'd call it a book but they use term pamphlet. It has 7 sections A-G: General. Centrifugal Pump, Rotary Pump, Reciprocating Pump, Deep Well Turbine Pump, Test Code, Data. Plus, there are two fold-out charts at the back that are attached into the pamphlet that can be viewed if you open the binder metal clasps. Each section has its own page numbers so quick count estimates this pamphlet and its 7 section has over 155 pages plus blank and the ... morefold-outs. Cardboard type paper cover, its like a binder, measures 8.75" by 11.5" with the paper sections inside just a bit smaller. All is in black and white. There are some illustrations, charts mixed in with the text. Condition of this 72 year old pamphlet is considered to be Fair(outside cover) and Good(inside pages)please see my condition guide below. I usually do not use two different condition terms. However, this is really the situation with this paper. The wear and staining is on the outside paper covering as you can see in the photos. I took pictures of the front and back so you can be sure you are ok with condition and quality before buying. Cover has soiling, clips and snips on edges, creases and folds, marks all over. Inside the paper is white with black lettering. It does have marks here and there, some wrinkles, small piece of paper out of first page top left corner, some soiling on page edges you see when closed, few clips and snips. I filled the listing with pictures so you can see a sampling of what is inside. While these standards are long outdated- I am selling as a collectible for someone in the industry. Thinking
