This is for one A.Y. Mc Donald Mfg Co Dubuque Ia Hand Well Pump. There is little to no paint left on this pump and it is almost all surface rust. It is roughly 43" tall. Some of the hardware has been replaced. Everything moves as it should and I couldn't find any cracks breaks or weld. This is being sold as more of a decorative item but could possibly be put back into use with a little effort. This item may be partially disassembled for a safer and more cost effective shipping. Columbiana Ohio Fig19A 467" On the side"made in USA 474A" Have no idea how old, it has a pipe attached to it which we will remove. If you pick up the pump you can have the pipe, if not I will not ship the pipe. The pump has original green paint and age related fading. The pump is approx.22" and the handle is about 16" Pump handle is not frozen.

Cast Iron Hand Well Water Pump Approximate size: 16" tall x 6 1/2" base Chartered May 24. 1916 See photos for visual inspection. Luther D. and Emory H. Snyder started the Littlestown Hardware and Foundry Company. Inc. as a gray iron foundry with sixteen employees— producing, machining, painting, plating iron castings. For World War I, castings for bearings and shafts for the war effort were made. Later, hardware items, such as bench vises, flanges, hammers, bookends, fire place tools and doorstops complemented the wide variety of commercial castings produced. Today, with 70 employees, over 95% of our business is producing commercial aluminum castings.

In 1888 Mr. Peter Wistrand founded the Peter's Pump Co. in Kewanee. IL. In 1890 Mr. Fredrick Guenther bought an interested in the company. Peter Wistrand sold his interest in the company in 1904, and two of Mr. Guenther's relatives joined him in the venture. I am not an expert on old water pumps. So I can't say exactly what year this was made, but the small amount of information I could find indicates it's probably early 1900's. The handle moves freely, but I'm not sure it actually pumps water at this time(not sure it has all inner workings to do that) it has not been tested. John Deming was an industrialist from Salem.OH and helped push forward the American ways of living in the late 1800's. The Silver& Deming Mfg. company was founded in Salem,OH in 1868 after L.A. Dole died(it was Dole, Silver& Deming)This firm grew rapidly and started shipping their product nation wide earning the reputation"Worlds best pumps" They began offering a line of hand operated black smith drills, which eventually expanded into a line of power driven drilling machines. This company apparently invented the large size twist drill bit with turn down shaft so they can be used in a chuck smaller then the bit's cutting diameter. They did not patent this idea, so the idea was quickly copied by others, but these bits are still called"Silver& Deming drills" The company split in 1890 after only 22 years, ... moreand went their own ways. The following auction is for a CJ Hartley hand well pump. I think its the kind that would mount on a kitchen wall by the sink. I am not sure if its made to pull water out of a 20 ft deep well. Its a bit dirty and rusty. It could use a good cleaning. I have no idea if it works or not. I can pull the slide that is inside the well housing. It does move up and down.But not a lot. It is labeled CJ Hartley Peoria ILL on the pump handle. On the pump housing it has the number 455. The bracket that mounts to the wall is numbered 453. The one side of the handle says Patd Nov 8. 1908.Then numbered 450. Its covered in a layer of surface rust.But its not rusting through or rotted away. Its more of a rustic rusty look. From the wall mount to the top of the well housing it measures about 8.5 inches. The bracket that mounts to the wall is about 10.5 inches ... morefrom hole to hole. From bottom of the pump(where the union is) to the top of the handle measures about 17 inches. A neat rustic piece. You will probably have to replace the leather gasket inside the pump. These usually dry rot. I didn't look inside and you may get lucky. This piece is untested and I truly have no idea if it works or not. LOT 2456 WE HAVE LOT OF OTHER AUCTIONS GOING ON. Made of cast iron. This pump measures about 19 inches tall and the pipe attached to the pump measures 9 inches for a total height of approx 28 inches. From the side, it's about 12" deep at it's deepest. Condition: I have not cleaned or modified the item-it is as found at the back of an old farm. Parts all appear to be original. I believe it may have been re-painted at one time. As there is evidence of peeling paint(see photos) under the current paint. Other than the paint, the item appears to be in good condition with no broken cast iron parts. I could have sprayed the pump with some red krylon paint but if you want it painted. You really need to use some oil base exterior paint. The krylon would last very long if you put it outside. Some people like the way it is. It wouldn't take much to paint this little pump. It stands 16" tall and has a 7" base. Very nice brass throat on it that just sets it out with the red color. I have one similar to this in my yard except I painted it John Deere green. The guts feel like they are still in and good on the pump. That's certainly not to say it would still pump water but that if it needed anything it would probably only be the rubber seal inside. They tend to dry rot if the pump is not being used. I do not know if it will pump water without new leathers or not because it has not been used in a long time. Original color of this was green you can see in spots. Antique Vintage Cast Iron, Brass and Bronze Bilge Pump, D. B. Smith & Co.
Here is a bucket pump or bilge pump. Made of brass(the pump body) cast iron(the red handle and the foot rod) and bronze(the bracket holding the foot rod and hose, the strainer, and the pipe at the end of the hose) The pump has been cleaned up and looks nice. All parts are in very good condition, including the ribbed rubber hose. I have not, however, attempted to pump water with it. Perhaps it is useable or can be easily made so- if not, it makes a neat decoration. The pump is 26 inches long with the handle all the way down.
