The tub bottom was not pitched, as they are today. This set is made for those older tubs and newer ones alike There are two feet marked"43" and two are marked"43 ... moreL" The"43 L' feet belong on the end opposite the drain. They are 1/8" taller than the"43" feet. To use these on a level item. Such as a table, wood stove or Franklin style stove, or even cooking stove: Insert an 1/8" thick washer between the mounting arm& the appliance on the two shorter feet. I believe the feet are made of cast iron. They are certainly cast- either iron or a steel alloy. They are not aluminum. CONDITION- It looks like someone partially stripped two of these feet& got distracted. Two of them were a lovely shade of"I Can't Believe Someone Bought This Color Yellow" with white underneath& many peeled areas. Two are"Mostly Stripped White" The remaining paint. As seen in the photos, is not in great shape. You may want to re-paint, or leave them as-is, with all their vintage glory. SAFE& EASY PAINT STRIPPING- Boiling these in water will loosen the paint quite readily for easy peeling and eliminate lead paint sanding dust or handling harmful chemicals. This original set of 4 large cast iron ornate lion paw feet for a bathtub date from the late 1800's. Large and impressive. Original set in as found used condition. Each numbered 1-4. Two have old white over paint with all 4 having old grey paint. Very heavy(between 5-6 lbs. each! No cracks or breaks. Paint loss and surface rust. Measures approx. 8 1/2 in. tall by approx. 6 1/2 in. at widest. Very nice set.
