Dings or scratches, very light rust patina on the exposed surface but no heavy rust or pitting. It retains about 95 plus percent of the original blued finish& is Very VERY NICE LOOKING! Originally, this had a bolt/locking mechanism, but we found it"as is" without the bolt. Although we we could fix most old locks, we don't have the parts to fix this one. However, we know that there are creative people out there who could make good use of such a beautiful piece. It's slightly bent(see last photo) But could easily be straightened. These parts came from a Russian SKS. There's a dust cover that is stamped 1953r. Above that date is a more defined Russian rebuild stamp that's indicated with a square that has a diagonal line thru it. And above that is the Tula Arsenal stamping.
