It does have some pits but edges remain very nice in appearance. There is some minor deterioration on socket edge also(see in photos) This is a stout spearhead with relative heavy socket walls and blade tapering from center. This could have been used as a throwing spear or thrusting spear as specific use is hard to determine but to my way of thinking with a 13 mm socket it would have worked best ... moreas a Throwing Spear. FIND LOCATION: WESTERN EUROPE CULTURE: CELTIC CIRCA: 350 BC/ 100 BC TOTAL LENGTH 180 mm BLADE High Center Rib 97 mm X 21 mm SOCKET 12 mm WEIGHT 40.3 grams CONDITION Cleaned and Conserved G/ VG This spearhead is in GOOD/ VERY GOOD condition and was Cleaned(Loose rust and dirt) and Conserved(w/Smart Coat) This style of spearhead was made by the Celts with its high center rib and 12 mm reinforced socket ring. It is solid metal with overall deterioration that can be seen in photos. The socket has a couple pieces missing from the reinforcement ring and the tip shows some deterioration. Can be seen in photos. Blade has a little deterioration on bottom corner. This spearhead was probably used on a throwing spear due to its size and weight. It would have been very lethal. To halt deterioration all dirt and loose rust was removed from this spearhead ... moreand it was coated with Smart Coat(a Polymer sealant designed for use over rust oxides) It can be easily removed if wanted. This has no repair of any kind to the best of my knowledge as is with all item listings unless stated. An exceptionally fine LATE BRONZE AGE axe/spearhead. This is Celtic. Possibly from the Wessex culture but later, and was found in the south of England by my father in the 1940's. In. The Bronze Age is considered to have been the period from around 2100 to 750 BC. This is from the end of that period as evidenced by the fine workmanship. The planes of the metal. a technique experts call‘linear facetted axe’ are still visible after almost 3,000 years and the patina is relatively light. It has a socket for the handle and a loop to tie it securely on.This also was generally a later refinement in the making of axe/spearheads. There is an open spot where the metal has worn through- testament to it's frequent use. PROVENANCE:My father Jon Manchip White( please refer to Wikipedia entry) A Cambridge University educated archaeologist and anthropologist, ... morespecialized in the Ancient Egyptian culture.
