THANK YOU. Here is a stunning and very desirable approximately 150 year old antique Japanese small Choba tansu. Or merchant's chest, dating from the Meiji Era around the mid to late 1800's, featuring a lock bar in the center and classical safe compartment at the bottom right. It boasts a natural light colour with a rich honey patina, beautifully shaped hand forged iron hardware, wood peg construction and 8 drawers of various sizes that provide versatile storage options including a full width drawer at the top. It is in excellent overall condition for it's age. But has a little lock issue: as there is no key and the top drawer lock is in the closed position with the drawer open it will not shut all the way. The safe compartment has a tendency to swing open by itself since there is no key to lock it. The lock issue does NOT affect the lock bar which slides in and out of place properly. Please read the description and examine the photos for more details on the condition. Locksmiths and larger antique dealers will own sets of multiple keys to fit a broad range of locks so you should be able to get the drawer unlocked easily enough so it slides into place. With a little patience you could also find an antique key that fits right here on ebay(I can recommend a seller who regularly stocks this type of item) Other small issues worth noting are a small repair in the bottom corner of the smallest drawer just above the safe compartment. The larger top drawer is stiff to open and close due to age and needs a tweak, and one corner plate in the back is bent out of shape. Given it's age there is some wearing off of the blackening of a few small spots of the iron, and a couple of small nails are missing. For sale is the nicest Lane Cedar Chest I have ever came across! This is a beauty of a chest with a very nice black leather cushioned top and a very fancy front wood inlay and its on wheels. This chest is 4 Foot long. Stands 16" tall, and is 16" deep. Please note that I have removed the lock due to Ebay policy as the lock on it was one that automatically latches. Lane does give new locks for free however, you call them at 800-327-6944. This is in Beautiful condition! There is one minor scratch on the left side that you can see in the last picture and there is one screw on one of the back hinges that has been replaced. I got this at an Estate Sale and you can tell it has not been sat on as the Leather and cushion is in Pristine condition, no cracks, no tears, no wear at all. This is a beautiful vintage Lane cedar chest from 1965. This chest isn't typical of Lane designs. It has a very sleek mid century modern look. The chest is walnut wood lined with cedar. It has a storage tray on the inside for smaller items. The chest measures 20-1/4" tall, 53-1/4" long and it is 17-5/8" deep. It is in excellent condition with no damage. On close inspection it shows a few scratches and there is a ding on the back right corner, nothing outstanding though. This chest comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home. It is clean and ready to use. Per the Consumer Product Safety Commission(CPSC) Full size chests manufactured between 1912-1987 need to have their locks replaced or removed due to the fact that the original locks automatically latch shut when closed and children can become entrapped. This original Lane Cedar blanket chest- is a mid century antique and in great condition. It has original papers indicate manufactured in 1952. There are a few minor and almost non visible scratches. I have included several pictures so you can see the condition. The lid opens smoothly and closes completely. The legs are solid. The lock has been removed per Ebay restrictions. Complete interior includes a fold-up, three compartment shelf with green felt inserts, the original insurance offering and other promotional stickers. Outside, we see the wear bestowed on this heirloom over the years. Scratches, some deeper than casual- see the pictures. You can refinish this splendidly with a bit of sandpapering and polyurethane, or just clean it up and use it as it is. The aromatic cedar vapors(yes! it hits you as soon as you open it! protect your contents from moths and other beasties. 1949 Lane Cedar Chest TLC Beauty Dark Wood Tone
This is a nice cedar chest. Dimensions are: 46" L x17" W x 22" H. The veneer has come off on some areas. The only damage is the appearance but the actual structure of the chest is in great condition. This is a beautiful genuine antique Lane brand cedar lined hope chest which belonged to my grandmother. She was given this as a 9th grade graduation gift in 1952 from her mom and dad. I do not know the actual date of manufacturing only the year she was given it. According to the product information given below and the serial number. The date of manufacturing is 08/02/50. The color is a beautiful medium brown and made out of solid cedar wood and veneer on the outside and brown stain finish. This chest is very secure and sturdy. Lane is an American company that makes high quality products. Item Info- Style No 2525-M Serial No 052080 Lane Altavista. Va REG. U.S. PAT. OFF Approx. Measurements- outside: 47" long/wide ... more18 1/2" Deep 22 1/2" Tall Inside: 44 3/8" wide 16 1/4 deep 12" tall Felt lined compartments: 20 11/16" wide left 20 3/4" wide right 7 7/16" deep 1 3/4" tall Lock works and comes with original key. It has been cleaned and oiled to make sure that it worked perfectly. The lock has been removed carefully as to not damage it and will be given with the chest. Just separately, because the lock was recalled for safety reasons for it will automatically latch when closed being a hazard to children. In good condition with moderate wear. Scratches, nicks and chips. This could be cleaned up and given a little love to look real nice. Inside is great condition with little to no wear. Product Information How old is my cedar chest?
