Was made in France in early 1900 in the style of 18th century furniture. It measures about 33" tall. 15" deep and 32 1/2" wide. Legs are about 10" tall. Drawers are about 8" deep and 19" wide. Small convenient size makes this item really versatile; basically any house will have some room and use for it and this commode can be used as a center piece in a tiny apartment or just serve the purpose of a nightstand in an oversize bedroom. It is not a cheap contemporary reproduction made in Egypt. With ugly brass mounts and tasteless imitation of real marquetry work, which are offered on eBay for more than my selling price, but a fine quality authentic item. Fine inlaid tulipwood veneer is protected from scratching with bronze mounts. Including sabots on the legs and escutcheon around keyhole. Lock is complete with an original working key and will locked the both drawers at once. Detailed marquetry work depicting fresh flower arrangements and the image was meticously constructed from the species of exotic wood veneers of different colors. Mahogany is laid on a diagonal bias on front and sides of chest and surmounted by elaborate ormolu detail. Most striking are the pair of ormolu busts of French court figures introducing the chest on either side. Italian polished marble on top surface of deep green with white veining and an ogee edge. Has two large drawers with copious storage capacity. Believe this piece to be made in Italy, although not marked, as it is of significantly higher quality than pieces made in Egypt, where the vast majority of chests of this manner were reproduced. The scale and proportions of the chest are accurate ... morewith historic models. It is virtually impossible to find an 18th century bombe of this type but this a most attractive option of high caliber. Condition: Very good overall condition and wear is consistent with age.
