Condition: Used Location: Fairfield, United States We are pleased to be offering today this wonderful solid black walnut Victorian age civil war era reupholstered sofa dating from the 1860s to 1880s era. ... moreIt has a wonderful carved grape cluster on the top of the swoop crest, hand carved grapes on each arm, cabriole legs and a serpentine skirt. The fabric has been replaced along the way with an antique beige that is all buttoned and pleated. It must have been done in the last 10 years or so as it is in lovely condition. The sofa is all tight and sturdy. The overall size is 68 inches wide on the outside of the arms, 48 inches wide on the inside of the arms, 28 inches deep, 38 inches high to the crest, 23 inches high to the arms and 16 inches high to the seat. It is a great looking sofa with a great patina on the wood frame.

Up for auction is a beautiful Giltwood Salon Suite with two Fauteuils and a large Canape. Each fauteuil is raised on neoclassical style fluted legs. With carved acanthus leaf arms, and a linen-wrap decoration around the crest of the back. On the canape, the fluted carving continues up the arms to a braided crestrail. The carving is very deep and nicely executed over the gilt gesso wood frame. Each piece is upholstered in later fabric, likely done a decade or two ago, with cream and gold colored thread- very elegant and suitable for a high-class setting. Size: Each fauteuil measures 38.5 inches tall by 24 inches wide. The canape measures 39 inches tall by 70 inches wide. Condition: Patinated surfaces throughout with small chips to edges and loss to gilding. It is in exceptionally good condition. Pure class and luxury! The solid wood finely carved floral crest creates an incredible accent for this sofa and makes it such a unique piece that it would be difficult to find anywhere else. It does have a very comfortable cushioned back and seat. There is a richly carved grained wood frame of the entire perimeter along with a fabric gold inlaid ribbon. Supported by cabriolet legs. It had been reupholstered in a rich dark cocoa brown velvety type of material that would blend in well with many decors. With arms much lower than the back. The pitch of the sofa’s back allows your back to rest at a comfortable angle, not too upright. It has 3 matching footstools that were certainly carved with it.
