This is a very unique(and adjustable) lamp and has"Hubbell" on the switch(see ... morepicture) This item stands about 7" tall without the shade or bulb and around 10" with bulb and shade(came with a 25 watt bulb which is not included) and weighs a bit under two pounds. To my surprise this lamp is adjustable in heigh t. The metal base unscrews to make this lamp go from 7" up to about 9 1/2" 12 1/2" with shade and bulb) This piece shows great patina throughout and is being left to next buyer as to how much cleaning is to be done. The wiring on this lamp is definitely older and may need to be redone. As you can see from one of the pictures it does(or at least did) work when I carefully and cautiously tested it! I cannot guarantee that it will continue to work without rewiring. That being said I am including pictures to show the plug and socket wires. Some fraying of the cloth cover is evident at both ends. I would rather err on the side of being cautious but the rest of the cord seems to be in fairly good shape. No tape jobs or cuts. The"HUBBELL" switch seems to turn nicely and has great on/ off clicks. The shade(which is non metallic) sort of snaps around the bulb. Pictures will show this mechanism on the inside of the shade. I am not sure of the age of this lamp. But I knew it was something different and unique when I saw and obtained it. Hopefully you will too and give it a good home. Each drawer has the 1892 and 1894 patent date on them.The Library Bureau Sole Makers Company was in business from the early 1880s to about 1925.I guess the library in the 1890s had to be the only gateway to the world and the hands that were in these drawers.Very nice old patina and there are a few issues but not major and easily addressed and fixable with low expense.There is a piece along the right rear back panel which is not really visible from the front.A couple drawers have some cracks and one has a piece of the rear panel gone but every issue is repairable and I have not altered or repaired anything so you are dealing with the original item.No screws or glue added but it could use some skill to keep it original.There was tape used on the exterior over the years and those are the shadows you see in the photographs.The shadow of the ring on the top was put there by the original librarian so I had a place to put my coffee cup.It is a really cool piece and soundly built.Another 100 years is no problem with this guy. Beautifully Carved Antique English Oak Coffer Three front raised panels are elegantly carved with fine acanthus leaf motif. The 7/8" solid top is made with breadboard ends. The 1" thick sides are panelled and beaded. The back consists of two reverse-raised panels in a 1" thick frame. The skirted bottom conceals a set of four small metal casters. The inside is all open. This piece shows beautiful rich dark brown patina throughout. This coffer took some considerable skill to build and. Although it is an antique with the usual slight bumps, it's excellent condition reflects the care with which this piece was crafted and treated through the years. The hinges and locking mechanism(no key) are solid brass. The top shows a couple of age cracks that are normal for a piece of this vintage. This is a rare pre-1800 period oak chest or trunk. The chest features hand chiseled carvings or motifs on the front followed by a scalloped edge base. The chest has mitered corners along with hand forged hinges and nails. The lid braces were hand hewn and have distinctive worm holes that come with theses century old pieces of furniture. It is a wonderful old piece which reeks of character. The chest measures 351/2" by 13" and stands 16" tall and is in excellent. Large antique oak coffer blanket box chest mid C18th An attractive oak coffer/ blanket box in oak. This dates from the mid eighteenth century and is in surprisingly original condition. It stands on stile feet and has a three panel front which does not have later carving as so many do. The lock and striking plate are intact. A good large size. This coffer is very solid and sturdy and will give many more years of use. It has age related marks of use and old splits as one would expect. It has the original floor and back. Antique Hand Painted Oak Sea Chest / blanket coffer c1836
Painted Oak coffer c1836 This is the best'ships Masters' captain or owner) coffer we have seen in the last 30 years. From the historic port of Nantes it is constructed of fine oak rather than the typical pine. The decoration is original and untouched and depicted garlands of flowers with two delightfully naïve canary or oriole type birds. It is impossible to pinpoint its history. They were typically commissioned by ships captains or owners and are usually painted though I have never seen illustrations of such a romantic example. The inference is that it is a marriage piece with the inscribed date that of the union. One can guess it was a gift from a mariner/owner to his bride. The photos do not do it justice it is a wonderfully romantic piece and very effective focal piece for any room. We love it. ANTIQUE GEORGIAN SOLID OAK COFFER / TRUNK / BLANKET BOX WITH LATER ALTERATION
ANTIQUE GEORGIAN SOLID OAK COFFER/ TRUNK/ BLANKET BOX WITH LATER ALTERATION* PLEASE SCROLL DOWN AFTER THE DESCRIPTION TO SEE THE PHOTOGRAPHS OF THIS ITEM. IF YOU WANT TO SEE ANY FURTHER IMAGES PLEASE JUST ASK. This lovely coffer dates originally from c.1720. But has had carving and alteration added over the years. Most of the alteration is old, probably Victorian, in date. The coffer has a planked top, and a heavily carved front and sides- we believe that the carving was added later, probably in the early Victorian times. It is supported on straight legs with carved shoulders at the front. The coffer has metal hinges, which are old, although we do not believe them to be original to the piece. The bits of newspaper covering the hinges are dated 1798 and 1799. The coffer retains a lock, but this is wobbly and we do not know whether it works ... moreor not- please note that no key is present. The coffer is constructed from solid oak. Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in usuable condition. But with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some overall scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected, and the piece is overall faded. As is mentioned above the coffer has had significant alteration over the years- the carving has been added, the hinges have been replaced, and the front plank of the top is also a replacement. A piece of wood has been added to the underneath of the top to strengthen it. There are some areas of wood loss, and some signs of old woodworm- this is not active, but has been retreated as a precaution. The carved shoulder at the left-hand side of the front is a little loose, as is the lock. There is some wood shrinkage cracking to the planks of the base. The top has some scratching and heavy indentation. Please refer to photographs below. ANTIQUE SOLID OAK CHEST TRUNK COFFER, EARLY 1700’s
This antique solid oak chest/trunk/coffer came into our family when it was purchased from an antique store in Summerland. California back in the mid 1980's. It was sold to us with the provenance that it is from the early 1700's and was a ship captain's chest/trunk/coffer and was from England. Condition as shown in the pictures is as we received it and it has been well cared for since it came into our hands. It has the original hand forged iron hardware and does have the original working lock and key. The construction is with wood pegs and the main box is made with one piece oak planks, with the front and side decorations placed over that. Overall dimensions of this piece are: approximately 48" long, by approximately 24" deep, by approximately 24" high. Considering that the planks used in this piece are all straight ... moregrain with no knots, it is quite possible the tree the wood came from was very old itself. Oak Carved Inlaid Antique 1700's Swedish Dowry Chest or Trunk. This magnificent 1700's hand carved oak dowry chest from Sweden has arches surrounding ebony inlaid marquetry. The finish is in excellent condition. Preserving mars, stains and various restorations over the centuries, see photos. Waxed and buffed. Only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain the antique patina. Hand wrought iron handles and hinges are original, the giant lock has a key but does not latch the lid. Antique 1667 German Oak Hammered Iron Traveling Trunk Coffer Chest 17th Century
Antique 1667 German Oak Hammered Iron Traveling Trunk. Measures 44" wide by 25" high by 23" depth. NOT a reproduction. My parents bought this over from a trip to Europe in 1971. Extremely sturdy. Very little damage, just on some of the iron and I have the small the piece that is missing from the left bottom, it needs to be reattached. No key. There are two U-shaped pieces that would attach the trunk to a coach in the back. I have the shipping manifest with the shipping date of Feb. 1972 when my parents shipped it from Germany. This is obviously a very heavy piece(I guesstimate well more than 200 pounds) and would need to be shipped by a freight carrier. Antique 16th/17th Century German Oak Coffer On Stand
Here for sale is a beautiful old 16th or 17th century german oak coffer on probably later stand which at some point in time has been converted to a front double door opening cupboard. The coffer retains what I believe to be the original ironwork side handles hinges etc.The conversion work has resulted in the lid now fixed down.The timber is that delicious blackened aged oak colour and patina and the coffer itself is decorated with beautiful original panelling depicting what I think are coats of arms of the Holy Roman Empire. About the item: Rare antique early 18th century Fruitwood and Oak small cupboard. C 1720.It has lovely proportions and great colour/patina with two moulded panelled doors enclosing a plain shelved interior, flanked on either side by fluted columns. The end panels are moulded with geometric square motifs. It is in good original condition with only minor surface wear. The top planks have warped slightly with age, but this merely adds to the character of the piece and is all very much as you would expect from something that is nearly 300 years old. It has a hinged lid and cut out aprons with a brass handle on the lid. I believe the brass knobs are replacements and it was probably refinished 100 years ago.
